Chapter 2
Jonah left, and after that, there was no news from him.
I waited from morning until night, but he never returned.
Standing by the door, I saw nothing of him–only an envelope lying on the ground.
Hunger gnawed at me, and I picked up the envelope absentmindedly before dragging my weak body to the kitchen in search of food.
Tossing the envelope onto the counter, I instinctively lifted the lid of a pot sitting on the stove.
As expected, there was only chicken broth, with a few scraps of meat floating inside.
The best pieces had been taken–Jonah had left nothing behind.
Even the soup was just a thin layer at the bottom.
I stared at it for two seconds before letting out a quiet, bitter laugh.
I didn’t even know what I was expecting anymore.
Shaking off my thoughts, I grabbed some vegetables and eggs from the fridge and made myself a simple sandwich.
That was when Jonah returned.
His gaze landed on me as I took a bite, and his brows immediately furrowed. “You’re pregnant, and you’re eating just this? Where’s the nutrition in that?” He walked over, pulled out a chair, and gently guided me to sit at the table.
I gave him a surprised glance but took my seat anyway, continuing to eat.
“I don’t have the luxury of someone cooking for me,” I said flatly. “A sandwich is the best I can
manage.”
Jonah’s expression stiffened with a hint of awkwardness. He coughed lightly and cast me a side glance.
“If you hadn’t spent the whole day saying things to piss me off, I wouldn’t have forgotten,” he muttered. “Besides, I did leave you some chicken and broth. You’re pregnant, Mia, stop being picky

He kept rambling on, but I pressed my fingers against my temples, growing more irritated as my

headache worsened and my face paled further.
“Can you just stop talking?” I snapped. “Have you forgotten that the smell of chicken broth makes me nauseous? I can’t even eat it.”
Jonah, who had been ready to argue, suddenly froze, his face turning slightly awkward.
It was almost comical–he really had forgotten.
“I… I was busy taking care of Alice,” he mumbled, trying to justify himself. “She said she wanted chicken soup. Of course, I had to prioritize the patient.”
Then his tone sharpened.
“And let’s not forget why she’s in this condition in the first place.”
Jonah’s confidence grew as he continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Besides, you have arms and legs, don’t you? You’re not sick–just a little blood loss. Do you really have to act like you’re dying?”
His words struck like a heavy blow.
My wolf stirred with fury, growling inside me.
Alice. It was always about Alice.
Even though I was carrying his child–his heir–Jonah still placed Alice above everything.
Back when he had insisted on making me his Luna and holding our mating ceremony, everyone in his family had criticized me, saying I wasn’t good enough for him.
They all believed Alice was his perfect match, even though I was the one fated to be with him.
She had even tricked him into going out with her under my name.
At first, Jonah would always tell me about it.
But over time, he stopped mentioning it altogether.
And now, I finally understood why.
Perhaps the moment he stopped telling me was the moment he had already wavered.
Jonah, oblivious to my thoughts, looked at me and hesitated before speaking again.
“Alright, Babe, I know you’ve had a hard time,” he said, his tone softer. “You’re pregnant, and you

donated blood… Here, have some milk.”
He picked up a glass and brought it to my lips, as if trying to make amends.
But the moment he moved closer, a faint scent drifted from his sleeve.
Alice’s scent.
A wave of nausea rolled over me.
I couldn’t hold it back any longer–I rushed to the bathroom and vomited everything I had just
eaten.
When I finally steadied myself, I looked up at the mirror.
A pale, exhausted woman stared back at me.
In the reflection, I saw Jonah standing behind me, his expression awkward and uncertain.
He reached out to support me.
“Babe, are you okay? Maybe we should have the pack doctor check on you,” he suggested.
I jerked my arm away and spoke coldly.
“No need. Just stay away from me.”
His expression darkened.
Seeing me turn away and head for the bedroom, he muttered under his breath,
“I swear, you’re so ungrateful. I was just trying to help, but you always have to act so high and
mighty.”
