Chapter 89 Ryland Babysits
Felix
“Leave, if our years of marriage ever meant anything to you. Disappear from my life. William, I don’t want to end up hating you,” Renee said coldly, her voice a quiet but firm command.
Her words cut through him like a blade, piercing his heart. He stood frozen, holding onto her as though he could cling to a dream slipping through his fingers. With each passing second, he could feel her pulling further away, the distance between them growing too vast to bridge.
Eventually, he let go, slowly releasing her from his grasp. His voice, barely a whisper, reached her ear. “Alright… If that’s what it takes for you to be happy.”
He turned and walked away, while she stood still, never once glancing back.
There was nothing left to look back on. She had made her decision three years ago to let go of the love she once felt for him.
However, if she intended to continue her life in Tofral as Renee Carter, she knew they would cross paths again. The upcoming Infinity Group annual party–William’s event -was unavoidable. With that in mind, she knew she had to settle things with him once
and for all.
As for Esme and what she had done to Felix, Renee vowed that she would make her pay.
The Infinity Group’s annual party would be in three days. In the meantime, Renee had been busy, with Ryland’s help, finding a reliable nanny for Felix. Ryland had taken an immediate liking to Felix, showering him with an absurd amount of gifts—a car full, to be precise. The front passenger seat, back seat, and trunk were all packed to the brim.
Renee stood speechless for a moment when she saw the mountain of gifts. “He’s just a two–year–old. How is he supposed to play with all this?”
Ryland grinned. “Well, why not have a whole bunch more kids? Didn’t you joke about having eight? Just to drive that man crazy? Go ahead, then. I’ll babysit.”
“Alright then,” she said, raising an eyebrow. “Why don’t you look after Felix for a day?”
Renee had some things to take care of. Since she had to attend the gala, she needed to prepare, so she let Ryland take Felix for the day.
Ryland took Felix to an amusement park, thinking they’d spend the whole day there, having fun. Taking care of a child, he figured, wasn’t all that difficult. And with Felix’s ìnjured foot, it was simple—just put him in a toy cart, and Felix wouldn’t go anywhere.
After a quick visit to the restroom, Ryland returned to find Felix crying alongside another sturdier boy, with a staff member frantically trying to calm them down.
Without hesitation, Ryland rushed over to Felix, picking him up.
“What happened? Why are you crying, Felix? Are you hurt?” he asked, his concern palpable.
“Excuse me. Are you Felix Carter’s family?” the staff member asked, her voice strained.
“Yes. What happened?” Ryland’s tone grew more irritable. The staff should have been
more vigilant.
The staff member quickly explained, “Well, this little boy took the toy Felix was playing with, and they got into a dispute. He pushed Felix, and Felix hit him with the toy…”
Ryland’s face darkened with anger. He snapped, “So this brat bullied Felix? Where are his parents? Get them here, now.”
The sturdier boy’s crying escalated at Ryland’s harsh tone, prompting the staff member to rush over and comfort him.
Within moments, a woman in her fifties or sixties dashed out of the crowd, looking frantic as she hurried toward the scene.
“What happened? Jimmy, who hurt you? Don’t cry, Jimmy. Let me see where you’re injured.”
