“I do!” Felix said with a bright smile. Then, his expression turned thoughtful. “He wants me to call him Daddy. But I already have a daddy.”
Ryder nodded. “That’s right, Felix. You already have one, and that’s all you need. You’re
the best, kid. Now come on. Let’s watch some cartoons together.”
Meanwhile, inside the interrogation room, exhaustion clung to Sylvia like a heavy weight. Days of questioning had worn her down. The two incompetent kidnappers had already identified her voice, and investigators had indeed discovered suspiciously huge
amount of money transferred to the two kidnappers‘ bank accounts. Every piece of evidence pointed directly at Sylvia and there seemed to be no escape.
But no matter how much pressure they applied, Sylvia refused to confess to the hit–and
-run. Eventually, the lead officer had no choice but to call Renee.
Twenty minutes later, Renee walked through the door.
The moment Sylvia caught sight of Renee, she straightened her posture, attempting to look as dignified as possible.
Renee, however, barely spared her a glance. Without saying a word, she strode across
the room, reached for the surveillance equipment, and unplugged it.
From the monitoring room, a junior officer shot his superior a nervous glance. “Isn’t this against the protocol? Should we step in?”
The older officer let out a slow, weary sigh. “Protocol?” He shook his head. “She calls the shots here. Even the higher–ups wouldn’t dare cross her. We didn’t see anything.
Understand?”
The junior officer gave a swift nod. He had a hundred questions about who Renee really
was, but none he dared to ask.
Inside the interrogation room, Sylvia watched Renee in stunned silence. Tension thickened the air. Her fingers curled into fists as unease settled over her. “Renee, what
are you doing?” she demanded, her voice sharp with disbelief.
She studied Renee for a long moment, and then scoffed, “Do you still think you’re as powerful as you used to be?”
Her lips curled into a smirk. “Johnny is gone. William turned his back on you. Without the Carter name or the Mitchell family behind you, you’re nothing.”
Renee smirked. Sylvia’s words painted her as a disgraced heiress, but the look in Renee’s eyes said otherwise. She stared at Sylvia like she was nothing more than an insect. When Renee finally spoke, her voice carried a teasing lilt, almost playful, almost flirtatious.
“Is that so? Then take a guess. What do you think I’m about to do?”
Sylvia wasn’t foolish enough to believe this was just a conversation. She had spent too many nights haunted by Renee to mistake her intentions. If anyone knew how merciless she could be, it was Sylvia.
“Sylvia, this time, you’ve gone too far.” Renee’s voice was almost casual, but her eyes told a different story. “And now, you get to find out exactly what happens when you make me angry.” She took a step closer. “I want you dead, Sylvia.”
Without hesitation, Renee reached behind her back and pulled out a military–grade knife. The blade caught the light, its sharp edge gleaming as she stepped forward. A cold, menacing fire flickered in her eyes.
Sylvia’s breath hitched. Her pulse pounded in her ears. She fixed her gaze on Renee, watching every movement. “I dare you,” she warned, her voice shaking despite herself. “Renee, don’t forget where we are.‘
Renee tilted her head slightly, amusement flickering across her face. “Where we are?” she echoed. She let out a short laugh and twirled the knife lazily in her hand. “Sylvia,
do
you honestly think that matters? Do you think I need to be cautious about where I kill you?”
Sylvia had nowhere to run. The chair she was cuffed to might as well have been a prison. Before she could react, Renee struck. A sharp sting ripped across her cheek. A warm trickle slid down her skin. She lowered her gaze. Red stained her clothes, seeping
into the fabric.
It took a second for the pain to register, but when it did, it burned like fire. Sylvia’s face immediately went pale.
“Renee, are you insane?!”
Sylvia’s voice shook. She had never admitted fear before, but there was no denying it
now.
She never thought Renee would actually go through with it. This was the police station. How could she?
