Chapter 53 Cut Ties With
Him
“Thank you, Mr. Mitchell, but no,” Renee interjected, her voice slicing through the tension in the room.
William’s frown deepened, his tone frosting over as he addressed her. “Renee, nothing is more important than keeping the boy safe. Are you really sure you want to push me away right now?”
Renee faced him directly, her expression unreadable, her voice resolute. “That’s right. He’s my son, and I don’t need you interfering.”
On the sidelines, the nurse listened, her expression growing increasingly troubled by the second. She could sense the bitter history swirling between the two, yet couldn’t believe Renee’s seeming indifference to her son’s dire situation. Felix was in critical condition–how could his own mother let personal resentments overshadow his urgent
needs?
“Ma’am, your son is fighting for his life in there,” the nurse intervened, her voice a mix of plea and reprimand. “Can we put aside personal issues for now?”
But before she could say another word, Renee cut her off sharply, “Then take him to draw his blood.” She then pushed Ryder towards the nurse.
The nurse let out a frustrated laugh, almost in disbelief. “Ma’am, as I’ve already explained, immediate relatives just can’t be the donors. Since he’s the father, his blood donation could lead to dangerous reactions–anything from allergies and infections to acute hemolysis and more. This is your son’s life we’re talking about here!”
Renee’s stance was firm, her eyes steely. “If anything happens, I’ll be the one to answer for it.”
From beside her, Ryder added, his voice firm yet weary, “Just do it. Nothing matters more than saving Felix right now.”
The nurse was dumbfounded, unable to comprehend the recklessness of such parents. It made no sense to her. Weren’t soldiers supposed to be disciplined, not reckless? Yet,
her hands were tied; her superiors had given clear orders not to antagonize him, a high -ranking official. The repercussions for the hospital would be severe if she stepped out of line.
“Whatever happens, I’ll deal with the consequences,” Ryder declared, his voice thick with resolve.
With no other option, the nurse reluctantly escorted Ryder to the procedure to draw blood.

A heavy silence hung over the entrance of the emergency room. Renee sat slumped in a chair, her expression stony, guarded on either side by two soldiers. William made a move to approach, but was promptly halted.
Esme caught sight of Renee’s stoic demeanor and was taken aback. She had clung to a sliver of hope for the boy’s safety but was shocked by Renee’s cold decision to risk her son’s life rather than accept William’s help.

The chasm between Renee and William seemed insurmountable.
William’s gaze lingered on Renee, deep and inscrutable.
“William, take your mother home,” Eric commanded, breaking the tense atmosphere.
The entire town of Tofral was in disarray, and Eric found himself anchored there, wading through the aftermath to ensure a thorough investigation. Moreover, he had to make sure anyone who had glimpsed Renee’s presence tonight keep their mouth shut.
“Denton.” William’s voice pierced the tense air.
Without a moment’s delay, Denton moved forward.
“Take my mom home,” William instructed firmly.
Denton nodded, his response firm yet subdued. “Alright.”
He understood William’s turmoil better than most. Initially, William had been relentless in his search for Renee, his desperation palpable. Over time, his frantic searches had settled into a grim acceptance, yet he never ceased his quest to uncover her whereabouts.
This relentless pursuit was the only reason Ray, now rotting in a cell, was still breathing. They kept Ray alive clinging to the faint hope that he might one day reveal Renee’s location.
Tonight’s accident had brought a jarring revelation. Upon seeing Renee at the hospital, Denton wasted no time and contacted William.
But William’s arrival bore no relief, only the stark reality that Renee was now married, a mother to a young boy, and willing to endanger her son just to cut ties with him.
Her actions screamed of deep–seated animosity towards William.
Unbeknownst to Denton, another secret simmered close to the surface–Esame was the one who had struck Felix with her car.
If that truth were to spill, Renee’s disdain for William might deepen into something irreconcilable.
