Chapter 43 His Relentless Quest To Track Down Ren…

William had just returned from the cemetery, his mind heavy with thoughts, when his phone buzzed. Esme’s name flashed on the screen. Sighing deeply, he knew exactly why she was calling, yet he answered-after all, it was his mother.

Esme’s voice crackled through, tinged with unmistakable disapproval.

“William, have you completely lost your mind? How could you just leave Sylvia alone like that? Those people are a nightmare to deal with. What if something went wrong

with her?”

Upon pressing his fingers to his temples, William’s reply was measured, his voice a calm contrast to his mounting irritation. “Nothing would go wrong, Mom. I had sent backup.”

“But how could you really trust someone else with this? I also heard you turned Sunflower Restaurant upside down, searching every VIP suite. What the hell is going on?”

“It’s nothing, Mom. Anything else you need?” William’s tone hinted at his growing impatience. “I need to go; the office is swamped today.”

“You’re just trying to get rid of me.” Esme shot back. “Go to the hospital and check on Sylvia yourself. It’s irresponsible to leave her there all alone.”

There was a time when a mere mention of Sylvia in distress would have sent William speeding to her side. But not today. He barely flinched. “Mom, I’ve got my hands full here. Why don’t you check on her?”

Desperate to escape another round of lectures, William cut the call short, the beep echoing slightly in his ears.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Sylvia’s fury was palpable as she learned of William’s absence. Seized by a sudden tempest of anger, she swept her arm across the bedside table, sending medical supplies clattering to the floor in a chaotic tumble.

The nurse, who had just approached with an IV bottle, jumped back, startled by the sudden onslaught. “Excuse me, ma’am! What exactly are you doing? These supplies are

Sylvia fixed her with a frosty glare, her voice icy as she retorted, “So? Get the hell out of here!”

The nurse’s face flushed with indignation as she stooped to gather the strewn items. Muttering under her breath, she demanded, “Seriously, what’s wrong with you? You’re only making things worse for everyone, including yourself.”

“Fuck off!” Sylvia’s voice cracked like a whip, her rage undiminished.

Ignoring the outburst, the nurse continued her cleanup in silence, her back tense.

Leaning back against the headboard, Sylvia felt her anger simmer into brooding contemplation. The news of William orchestrating a raid on the VIP suites at Sunflower

Restaurant’s top floor gnawed at her. What was he up to?

Could it be…

A flicker of alarm passed through her as she sat up abruptly, her hands trembling as she fumbled for her phone. When she finally made the call, the voice that answered

was laid-back, almost mocking, clearly not someone to be taken too seriously.

“Hey there! Didn’t expect to hear from you. Miss me already?”

Sylvia dismissed any pleasantries and cut straight to the chase with a firm tone. “Head over to the Sunflower Restaurant and keep a sharp watch on the entrance. Nothing strange should escape your notice. The moment something-anything-seems off, I want to hear about it,” she commanded sharply.

The man’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What’s happening?’ Who exactly should I be on the lookout for? Why are you beating around the bush? Just tell me straight.” He pressed, his voice tinged with frustration.

“Do you think I’d be calling if I had any clues?” Sylvia retorted sharply. “Just follow my directions. And pay particular attention to a woman in her mid-twenties.”

After hanging up, a wave of unease washed over Sylvia. It had been three long years, and she alone knew William’s relentless quest to track down Renee had never waned.

The only reason Ray was still breathing was because William believed he’d got intel on

Renee’s whereabouts.

If William was willing to go that far this time, Renee had to be the reason.

“This is intolerable. I can’t just sit idly by,” Sylvia muttered under her breath, her resolve hardening. With a determined grip, she yanked out the IV needle. Despite her reputation for be fragile and vulnerable, she remained stoically silent through the pain.

The returning nurse, hands full with fresh supplies, stopped dead in her tracks upon seeing the scene.

“What have you done?” she exclaimed, her voice a mix of anger and dismay. The IV hasn’t even finished! How could you…”

Sylvia paid her no heed, swung her legs off the bed, and strode out of the room with extreme determination.
