Unbreakable Vows: My Husband’s Silent Refusal 37

Chapter 37 Rose

Three years had passed.

The roar of a striking red sports car filled the air as it pulled up in front of Infinity Group. Denton, donning a crisp suit, stepped out with an air of nonchalance and strode into the towering building. The receptionist’s face broke into a radiant smile upon spotting him. “Mr. Goodwin, you’re here again.”

A quick snap of Denton’s fingers, and a rose appeared as if plucked from thin air. He presented it with a sweeping bow. “For the loveliest lady of Infinity Group, Anya. May your day be as radiant as this bloom.”

She took the rose with a delighted giggle, her thanks chiming like a bell. As he made his way towards the elevator, she called out, correcting him with a laugh, “It’s Mina, not Anya, Mr. Goodwin. I’ve told you like a hundred times!”

With a soft chime, the doors slid shut, carrying Denton to the executive floor.

“Greetings, Mr. Goodwin.”

“Hello, charming.”

“Morning, Mr. Goodwin.”

“Hey, is William around today?”

“He’s in his office, Mr. Goodwin.”

With a casual knock, Denton barely paused before swinging the door open and walking

William, buried in his work, acknowledged Denton’s arrival with a fleeting look before getting back to his tasks.

Denton threw up his hands in exasperation. “Seriously? You can’t even say hello?”

William’s tone was flat, his gaze never wavering from the document he was reading intently. “You show up here pretty much every day. Do I really need to entertain you? People might start thinking you’re simply here to flirt with my employees.”

“That’s so unfair-who says I’ve got nothing serious to do? I’m here for something important this time, I swear,” Denton countered, rolling his eyes in exasperation.

“Oh,” William muttered, his voice laced with indifference, as if Denton’s words weren’t worth a second thought.

Undeterred, Denton leaned in, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. “Have you heard about the recent Dark River Operation?” he asked, a hint of mystery lacing his words.

At this, William paused, his hand freezing mid-motion over the paperwork. He looked up sharply, locking eyes with Denton, who couldn’t help but feel a surge of triumph. “See? I knew you’d be interested in this!” Denton exclaimed, his eyes twinkling with

excitement.

William rolled his eyes, his tone laced with impatience. “If you’re going to tell me, tell me. Otherwise, fuck off,” he snapped.

then

Denton held up his hands in mock surrender. “Fine, fine. But that’s hardly the right attitude when you’re asking for a favor, you know,” he responded, his voice teasing yet pointed.

Sensing William’s growing impatience, Denton hurriedly continued, “You know the Dark River Operation has been buried for years. It’s been deemed impossible-too many have died attempting it, forcing a suspension. Apparently, they’ve recently revived the mission. And from what I hear, it’s all because of a woman.”

With a skeptical tilt of his head, William’s frown deepened. Having grown up alongside Denton, he knew exactly what kind of man he was-Denton was a playboy, and women were his greatest weakness.

Raising his hands in earnest, Denton remarked, “I swear, I’m not messing with this

time!”

“The confidentiality level of this operation is S-level, Denton. How could you possibly be privy to such information?” William challenged him, his voice a blend of intrigue and

accusation.

Flashing a sheepish grin, Denton began, “Remember how I got grounded by my dad last week? Well, I snuck out at midnight…”

William cut in sharply, “And what was the reason for your grounding this time?”

Blushing slightly, Denton mumbled, “I’m seeing someone… But that’s not the point. Listen, I sneaked out through the study window, and just as I was about to leap, I heard

my dad come into the study talking on the phone. The words ‘Dark River Operation’ stopped me cold.”

Knowing Denton’s father-a figure deeply entrenched in intelligence work-William felt a reluctant tug of belief. Denton had been brought up in a world where the line between permissible knowledge and dangerous secrets was clearly drawn.

Eagerly, Denton went on, “I knew that was highly confidential and I was gonna sneak out, but I only stayed because I heard your name next, bro. I did it all for you. If my dad finds out I was eavesdropping, you’ve got to cover for me.”

“Go on,” William insisted, his curiosity piqued despite his reservations.

Denton leaned in, lowering his voice as he continued, “I heard my dad question, ‘Are

you sure you don’t want William involved? He might be of some help.’ Then he talked

about rebooting the Dark River Operation. Oh, and he referred to the person he was

talking to as Rose-code name or real name, doesn’t matter. So I assumed it was a woman. Sound familiar? Maybe an old ally or someone from your past?”
