Chapter 324 Secure Ties With The Paynes
Orlando leaned in, his eyes gleaming with a secretive look as he dropped his voice to a near whisper. “Back in the day, the Payne family saved the Mitchells from complete disaster. Without them, do you really think the Mitchells would be as powerful as they are now? And how did they repay the Paynes?”
His tone turned sharp with disdain as he let out a dry chuckle. “William refused to marry the Payne family’s daughter, even though both families expected it. And in recent years, the Mitchells have completely turned their backs on them. If you were in their shoes, could you stomach that?”
Jarrod gave a knowing nod. “You have a point.”
Deanna joined in, her expression thoughtful. “You know, I almost forgot about that until you brought it up. The Payne family used to have real influence in Tofral. I remember their eldest son-they said he was the brightest student in school, someone with real promise. But after their downfall, he never got the chance to rise. What a shame!”
“Exactly!” Orlando said, his excitement mounting. “The Mitchells owe them, and now, the Paynes are back to settle the score. If we play this right and support them at the right moment, we could turn this into an opportunity. And let me tell you something-the Payne boy knows how to repay a favor.
If we back him, he’ll make sure we benefit.”
His face flushed with enthusiasm, and he nearly spat his words in excitement. The way he spoke, it was as if he could already see the Mitchells crumbling and himself seizing control.
“He’s coming back with full confidence. Over the years, he’s built strong
connections and secured powerful resources. He’s just waiting for the perfect moment to strike against the Mitchells.”
Jarrod kept his expression neutral, but his mind was already racing through possible moves.
Deanna crossed her arms, her tone measured. “Mr. Payne may be capable, but he’s been gone from Tofral for a long time. He might not have a full grasp of the current situation here. We need to control this partnership and ensure he doesn’t dictate the terms.”
Orlando waved a hand dismissively, unconcerned. “You’re overthinking it, Miss Fuller. Right now, he needs us more than we need him. No matter how many connections he has outside Tofral, in this city, he still has to rely on us. I’ve already spoken with him, and he’s more than willing to work with
us.”
Jarrod took a sip of his coffee, giving himself a moment to think before speaking. “If that’s the case, when is he returning? We need to finalize the details of the partnership face to face.”
“Indeed, if we’re going to work with him, we should at least meet him first,” said Deanna, nodding in agreement.
Orlando pounded his chest with confidence. “Relax. Don’t you trust me to handle this? Everything’s already set. He’ll be back next Monday, and the moment he arrives, we’ll sign the agreement. At the same time, he’ll move against Eric. The Mitchell family won’t even see it coming!”
Their conversation stretched on for quite a while, yet not a single drop of alcohol touched their lips. It wasn’t until the meeting wrapped up that Orlando finally ordered a bottle of wine for himself. By the time they left, he was already a little drunk.
Jarrod shoved him into a taxi without a shred of politeness. If not for their ongoing “partnership,” he might have left him sprawled on the pavement instead. His expression made it clear-Orlando was nothing more than dead weight in his eyes.

Deanna caught the look and let out a quiet laugh. “Mr. Doyle, you seem to have something else on your mind.”
Jarrod shot her a glance, his face unreadable. Instead of answering her outright, he said, “And what about you, Miss Fuller? It looks like you might have your own agenda as well.”
They locked eyes, each trying to read the other, but neither was willing to
reveal their hand.
At last, Deanna broke the silence. “Let’s hope we don’t end up on opposite
sides.”
Jarrod gave a slow nod. “That would be ideal.”
Just as she was about to step into her car, Deanna suddenly paused as if remembering something. “I heard Miss Payne is quite close to you, Mr. Doyle. Does that mean you’ve already secured ties with the Payne family?”
