Chapter 319 Betrayed By Everyone
“Get out! All of you, get out!” Nixon’s voice, raw with fury, thundered through the room.
“Nixon…” Sally collapsed at his feet, clutching his pant leg as sobs wracked her body. “Even if you hate me, even if you throw me out, what about our child? Are you really going to abandon your own son?”
The word “son” sent a tremor through Nixon. His hollow eyes flickered with something unreadable before he turned to Sally, his movements slow, almost mechanical.
“My son?” Nixon’s voice wavered. “Sally, tell me the truth. Is the baby really mine? Or it’s…” The last word caught in his throat, too heavy to say aloud.
“It’s yours! I swear, Nixon, I swear on my life!” Sally clutched his hand, pressing it against her stomach as sobs wracked her body. “Feel him—his heartbeat. You can feel it, can’t you? He’s real. He’s yours.”
Every night, Nixon drifted to sleep with his hand resting on her belly, the steady thump of life pulsing beneath his fingers. Sometimes, the baby would kick, a small, playful nudge. And in those moments, the exhaustion of the day melted away.
This time, it was different. This time, it was his son.
His marriage to Renee’s mother had never been his choice. When she got pregnant, he felt nothing-no excitement, no attachment. And when she gave birth to a daughter, the distance between them only grew. Raised by her grandfather, Renee had grown into a bold, headstrong girl-nothing like the daughter he had imagined. With every passing year, the gap between them widened until all that was left was resentment.

But then came Sally. Her pregnancy felt like a second chance, a long- overdue gift. This time, his heart swelled with something unfamiliar-hope.
When he found out it was a boy, joy flooded through him. He wanted nothing more than to pour every ounce of love into this child.
But now, doubt crept in.
Why now? After all these years, why had Sally only gotten pregnant now?
Stetson suddenly burst into laughter. “Ha! See? I told you to be with me! But no, you chose him-this old fool.” He smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. “It’s not too late, Sally. Come with me. Since he doesn’t want you anymore, I’ll raise his son myself!”
Hope flickered in Nixon’s eyes. If the baby was truly his, maybe—just
maybe he could find it in himself to forgive her for the baby’s sake.
Renee let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “That’s pathetic.”
“You bitch!” Stetson’s eyes blazed with anger. “Like you’re any better!”
Renee met his glare with an icy stare. “Drop the act already. A simple test can settle this. With modern medicine, you can do a paternity test before the baby’s even born. Don’t tell me you didn’t know that.”
Stetson’s expression twisted. He really didn’t know!
“No!” Sally’s response was immediate, her voice sharp with panic.
Tears welled in her eyes as she turned to Nixon. “The risk is too high. What if something happens to our son?” Her voice trembled. “You can’t listen to Renee. She just wants to get rid of me-and our baby son.”
She clutched his arm, desperation in every word. “Nixon, think about it. If something happens to our baby, Renee won’t have anyone to compete with for the family inheritance. Don’t you see? She’s definitely up to no good! Nixon, you mustn’t fall for her tricks!”
Sally’s words struck deep, and Nixon’s resolve wavered.
