Renee completely ignored his outburst, not sparing him a single look. Her attention was focused solely on Nixon as she warned, “Nixon, if you had any sense, you’d see right through the Perez family’s intentions. They’ll never truly be on your side. Be careful not to thank them while they stab you in the back!”
Nixon was utterly baffled. His gaze fell on Stetson, and just as he was about ask about his identity, Renee interrupted, “If you’re wondering who he is… why not ask Sally? She’ll have more insights than I ever could.”
At the mention of Sally, Stetson’s initial boldness disappeared. He had initially dismissed his predicament as a joke. Even when he was brought into the Carter family’s place, he clung to the belief that he was mistaken for a burglar after being spotted leaping from the house. But Renee’s words hinted at her knowing more than she let on.
Then he reasoned that even if she knew something, it didn’t matter. She had no proof!
Considering the strained relationship between Renee and Sally, Nixon might remain skeptical, as long as Stetson kept denying everything. Nixon might even suspect Renee of trying to set Sally up.

At that moment, Sally, having heard the noise from, descended the stairs. She paused briefly as she took in the scene in the living room. Her gaze quickly moved from Stetson and settled on Nixon. With irritation, she asked, “Nixon, didn’t I request a glass of water earlier? Why am I still waiting? Oh, Renee is here! Have you eaten yet? Caitlyn, make sure to prepare Renee’s favorite meals for dinner tonight.”
Renee let out a soft laugh, watching Sally’s theatrical display with amusement. It was a convincing act indeed.
“Sally, since when do you know my favorite meals? Even Nixon doesn’t know, does he?”
Sally’s face tensed as she feigned embarrassment.
She wanted to look weak before Nixon, and was acting like a victim of Renee’s bullying.
Sure enough, Nixon’s demeanor grew stern as he said, “Sally is just trying to be nice! Your lack of manners is appalling!”
Renee retorted, “Yeah, whose fault is it, huh?”
Nixon was taken back. “You brat!”
“Enough with the charade! Sally, you know this man, don’t you?” Renee pointed at Stetson as she spoke.
It seemed as though Sally only then acknowledged Stetson’s presence. She asked in surprise, “Is he… your friend?”
With a scornful smile, Renee replied, “While I may be considered rude, I am selective about my friends. He’s definitely not my type! But you seem to favor his kind, Sally. Isn’t that why you were hiding him in the wardrobe?”
Sally’s composure visibly shattered, and a trace of panic flickered in her eyes. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

Stetson’s anxiety mounted as well. He hadn’t expected Renee’s precise reference to the wardrobe and wondered if she had seen something.
