Chapter 314 Downright

Brainless

“What are you doing here?” Nixon asked as he descended the stairs, his gaze landing on Renee. She lounged casually on the sofa, legs crossed, exuding defiance.

He couldn’t stand her arrogance. Her grandfather had spoiled her endlessly, fueling that entitled streak. Since childhood, Renee had dismissed everyone -including him, her own father.

But Nixon had never stopped to consider that her indifference wasn’t innate. It had been shaped over time, a slow erosion of respect, carved from his own failures as a father.

“What kind of deal did you strike with the Doyle and Perez families behind. closed doors? Are you plotting against the Mitchells? Nixon, have you completely lost it in your old age?”

Nixon had just started pouring himself a glass of water when Renee’s sharp words cut through the air, igniting his temper. “Watch your tone!” he snapped, setting the glass down with a thud.

“Since when do you think you can dictate my actions?”

Renee let out a sharp, scornful laugh. “Wow. I always knew you were reckless, but I didn’t think you were downright brainless.” She rolled her eyes, making no effort to hide her disdain.

“Renee!” Nixon roared, his grip tightening around the glass. With a sharp crack, he threw the glass at her, sending broken shards scattering at her feet.

Some pieces grazed her skin, but she didn’t even blink.

“Have you noticed the Doyle family making any public statements?” she asked coolly, her tone unshaken.

But Nixon wasn’t listening. His fury drowned out her words entirely.

“I’ve built my empire over decades, and you think you have the right to lecture me?” Nixon scoffed, his glare slicing through the tension. “You

came here to plead for the Mitchell family, didn’t you?”

He leaned in, his voice laced with disdain. “Let me make one thing clear, Renee that’s never going to happen. When the Mitchells were on top, did they ever extend a hand to our family? No. Not once.” His expression darkened. “Now that I finally have a chance to reclaim what I lost, I won’t hesitate to use them as a stepping stone. Even if it means cutting ties with them-and with you-I won’t bat an eye.”

“A chance to reclaim what you lost? How ridiculous! Nixon, you’re walking straight into disaster! Jarrod has already struck a deal with the Mitchell family. Do you really think the Perez family and you can stand against both the Doyle and Mitchell families? Think again!”

Nixon’s expression darkened. “What did you just say?” His voice dropped, edged with suspicion. “Don’t try to fool me I’m not that easily deceived.”

His gaze sharpened as he studied Renee, convinced she was scheming to manipulate him into siding with the Mitchells.

Having said her piece, Renee knew there was no point in arguing further if Nixon refused to listen. She rose from the couch, casually nudging aside

the shattered glass with her foot.

Just then, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, and a slow, knowing smile curled on her lips.

Without hesitation, she dialed a number and spoke coolly. “Bring him in.”

Nixon narrowed his eyes, wary of what she was up to. But before he could speak, a firm knock echoed through the room.

Caitlyn moved to answer it, but the moment she pulled the door open, she froze her eyes widening in shock at the sight before her.

–

“Who-who are you? What’s happening? Get out! Now!” Caitlyn stammered, her voice trembling as she threw out her arms to block the doorway.

But the man outside had no intention of listening. With a forceful shove, he pushed another man straight into the house.

Nixon’s brow furrowed. His gaze flicked between the newcomer and the man he had been dragging with him. Why was a burly enforcer hauling in someone dressed in nothing but pajamas?

“Renee! What the hell is this? Do you know them?” Nixon snapped, his patience wearing thin.

“Appreciate it, Barr.” Unfazed, Renee simply nodded at the enforcer.

With a smirk, Barr unceremoniously tossed the pajama-clad man onto the floor. Stetson landed hard, right on the glass shards. His body jerked as he let out a strangled yelp of pain.

“Dammit! Who the hell are you people?” he hissed, wincing as he tried to push himself up. “Why did you grab me? Let me go!”
