Chapter 311 Cheating
“Miss Carter? What are you doing back here?” Caitlyn Garrett, the housekeeper who opened the door for Renee looked anything but warm. She had often joined Sally in making snide remarks about Renee in the
past.
“I’m here to see Nixon,” Renee replied, her tone steady.
When Caitlyn showed no sign of moving aside, Renee arched an eyebrow and asked, “What’s this? Caitlyn, are you planning to block my way? Even if I were a stranger, wouldn’t it be your job as a servant to inform the
master of the house?”
Caitlyn’s eyes shifted nervously, but she kept herself planted in the doorway, still refusing to let Renee in. “It’s not that I want to stop you. It’s just that Mr. Carter’s not home right now. He’s at the company and hasn’t – returned yet.”
“Is that so? Well, then can’t I just go in and wait for him?”
Caitlyn hesitated before answering, “I’m afraid that won’t be possible.”
“Oh? Caitlyn, it’s been years, and look at you now-rising so high in the family, huh?”
Renee’s words dripped with sarcasm, but Caitlyn didn’t flinch. She stood firm, refusing to let her through.
If Renee really wanted to force her way in, Caitlyn wouldn’t be able to stop her. But that wasn’t her intention. Something about Caitlyn’s behavior felt off, and Renee’s instincts told her that the woman tried to stop her because she was worried Renee might see something she wasn’t meant to.
But what could it be?
Whatever it was, it had nothing to do with Renee anyway. As long as Nixon didn’t try to sell the family’s house, she couldn’t care less about their
business!
They were practically strangers now. Why should she waste time caring?
Still, a small part of her felt curious.
“Fine. I’ll leave, then,” Renee said, her voice cool.
With that, she turned and walked away without a second glance.
She could feel Caitlyn’s gaze on her back, probably making sure she was really leaving.
With no other option, Renee got in her car and drove off, the engine humming as she put distance between herself and the house.
Once she was out of Caitlyn’s sight, Renee wasted no time. She immediately pulled over.
Her curiosity was too strong to ignore. She had to find out what secret was being kept in that house.
Renee parked her car in a quiet corner of the street, and then carefully made her way back. The low wall surrounding the property was no challenge for her. With ease, she climbed over it and dropped down to the
other side.
However, as she landed, she stepped on a twig, the sharp crack echoing in the still yard.
Renee quickly ducked behind a bush, holding her breath as she listened.
Thankfully, no one came rushing out to investigate. She moved silently, creeping closer to the house. The living room was empty, and she could hear faint sounds coming from the kitchen-probably Caitlyn at work.
Renee’s gaze lifted, her eyes locking onto the second floor. Sally and Nixon’s room was up there. The building wasn’t tall, and Renee could easily
scale it with nothing but her hands.
Spotting Nixon’s room, she swiftly made her way up the wall and landed softly on the balcony, taking care to remain as silent as possible.
Though she was cautious, the sounds drifting from the master bedroom were anything but subtle.
Renee narrowed her eyes. She didn’t need to get any closer to know what was happening in that room-the sounds were unmistakable.
But Caitlyn had said Nixon was at the company and hadn’t returned yet.
So, who was in that room?
Renee raised an eyebrow, a thought suddenly crossing her mind. Sally was heavily pregnant and her belly had gotten pretty large recently, hadn’t it?
Wasn’t such intense activity in the later stages of pregnancy dangerous?
“Ah… ah… Slower… Please… No… Don’t stop…” Sally’s voice was soft and sultry, a stark contrast to her usual tone.
“You little minx! Do you want me to stop or keep going?” The man’s voice dripped with arrogance.
And it definitely wasn’t Nixon’s voice.
Renee let out a cold sneer. No wonder Caitlyn had been so eager to keep her out! She was afraid Renee would uncover that Sally was hiding a man
in her bedroom!
