Chapter 31 You Should’ve Just Admitted Earlier

“Look at you! Acting all indifferent so why are you drowning yourself in booze now?”

Denton shoved William into the car, pressing a bottle of water into his hands. Without hesitation, William downed it in one go.

William’s eyes, reddened from alcohol, narrowed as he asked, “Did you find the guy I asked you to?”

Denton started the car, his fingers drumming lightly on the steering wheel. “Yeah. Took me a while-he’s a slippery one. But don’t worry, I made sure he got what was coming to him. He won’t be sitting pretty anytime soon.”

William’s voice was low and steady. “Where is he now?”

Denton glanced at his friend through the rearview mirror. “I’ll take you to him. How’s

that?”

At first, Denton thought about cracking a joke to lighten the mood, but one look at

William’s haggard face made him hold back. In all the years they had known each other, this was the first time he had seen William looking so defeated, like a man

clutching at the last frayed thread of his pride.

With a sigh, he muttered, “You should’ve just admitted earlier that you had feelings for

her.”

“Admit it earlier?” William let out a bitter chuckle, his fingers tightening around the empty bottle. “If I had, Renee probably would’ve walked away even faster. You don’t

know her like I do.”

No one knew Renee better than William-not even Renee herself.

She had been spoiled since childhood, handed everything on a silver platter, never needing to fight for anything. And because she got things so easily, she never truly valued them. People were no exception.

William turned his gaze toward the neon-lit streets outside, memories flickering

through his mind like an old film reel. He could still hear Renee’s voice, playful and full of confidence, as she bragged to her friends, “Give me a week, and I’ll have William wrapped around my finger. Bet on it?”

Her friends had laughed, nodding eagerly. “We have absolute faith in your success! Didn’t you bag that straight-A student in just three days? Mr. Mitchell should be easy

pickings.”

“Yeah, and you dumped that guy three hours later. How long do you plan to keep

William?”

Renee had smirked, head held high. “Until I get bored.”

More laughter echoed upon her answer.

Tofral was a city that never slept, where exhaustion took a backseat to endless nights of revelry. The streets pulsed with life-some people losing themselves in the music and lights, others retreating into their own quiet corners, licking their wounds.

William belonged to the latter, but only briefly. He allowed himself a few moments of sorrow, let the ache settle deep in his bones. Then, just like that, he straightened up, his eyes sharpening with fierce determination.

“Pull every string. Find her.”

Denton sighed, shaking his head, “We’ve already tried. She took a flight to Oclya, but after that? It’s like she vanished into thin air.”

William’s expression darkened. He clenched his jaw, and then suddenly lifted his head. “Take me back to the Mitchell Mansion.”

Denton’s brows knitted together. “Are you planning to bring your dad into this?”

William didn’t answer, but his silence spoke volumes.

If he and Denton couldn’t track Renee down, then he had no choice but to lean on his

father’s influence.

Denton exhaled slowly, sensing trouble ahead. “Hey, have you considered that your dad might be the one behind Renee’s disappearance? Your mom’s been pushing for you to marry Sylvia, hasn’t she?”

“I’m not marrying Sylvia.”

“But your parents-”

William stared out the window for a long moment before saying, “Then let’s find out if my dad had anything to do with this.”

Denton nearly choked on his own breath. “You want to investigate your dad?” The very idea was absurd. Eric Mitchell was a man whose power stretched far and wide-digging into his affairs was like stepping into a minefield. One wrong move, and the whole thing could blow up in their faces.

“Forget it. Just take me to see that bastard first.” William waved his friend off before he could protest further.

Denton blinked, but then let out a bark of laughter as realization dawned. He knew exactly who William was talking about.
