Chapter 309 A Sugar Cube
In His Cup
William’s live stream sent shockwaves through not only the entertainment world but also political circles. Even Eric, William’s father, found himself under fire from political opponents eager to use the situation against him. Their goal was clear: either bring Eric down or see if he would take action against his son. Since William had founded Infinity Group, it had only enhanced Eric’s reputation. Three years ago, Eric had pushed for William to divorce Renee and marry the Chadwick daughter to strengthen political ties, but William had refused. That refusal had put Eric’s position in a precarious spot. However, Infinity Group’s meteoric rise in both reputation and quality had ultimately solidified Eric’s standing.
The father and son, one entrenched in politics, the other in business, had formed a powerful duo–making Eric’s position nearly untouchable.
While the storm caused by William’s actions seemed intense, the real consequences would likely fall on Infinity Group, which would face nothing more than some financial setbacks. For Eric, it seemed like a non–issue.
That was, unless Eric decided to get involved–then things could change entirely.
Now, those with hidden agendas were pushing Eric to take action, hoping to use it against him later.
“Mr. Mitchell, shouldn’t you address the recent issues with your son? After all, the public knows the CEO of
Infinity Group is your son. This uproar doesn’t exactly paint a good picture, does it?”
“And… I’ve also heard some rather unsavory rumors about you, too.”
Eric picked up his cup and took a sip, his brow furrowing slightly. The taste was off–too sweet. He raised the
cup and noticed a sugar cube partially dissolved at the bottom. His frown softened into a warm, satisfied smile.
“Mr. Mitchell?” someone called out, pulling him back into the conversation.
Eric snapped back to reality, his smile returning. “Oh, yes, yes. Go on. I’m listening.”
The people who had just spoken exchanged uneasy glances, sensing the tension in the air. One of them
hesitated before speaking again. “Mr. Mitchell, I still think—”
“My grandson put it in my cup while I was looking,” Eric cut him off, proudly pointing to the sugar cube in his
cup, showing it off to the person next to him with a beaming smile.
The speaker faltered, words hanging in the air as he stopped mid–sentence.
Realizing the room had fallen quiet, Eric looked up as though he’d just noticed his interruption. He gave a sheepish smile. “Sorry about that, please continue.”
The speaker hesitated, unsure whether to continue or just stop altogether. After a brief pause, they reluctantly pressed on. “I think it would be best if you also addressed the public, Mr. Mitchell. Doing so would reassure

everyone about our work and, indirectly, address the situation with your family. Therefore…”
Eric leaned in and whispered to the person beside him. “My grandson took a sip of my tea, probably found it too bitter, and decided to add some sugar. Isn’t that thoughtful? I remember you have a granddaughter. Is she just as sweet?”
The person next to him broke into a cold sweat, unable to do anything but nod awkwardly. “Yes… yes…”
Eric smiled warmly, his voice softening. “Lovely! Bring her by to play with my grandson sometime. Kids always get along easily.”
“Sure, of course.” The person thought to themselves that not all kids got along, not that easily at least- especially since his granddaughter was already in middle school.
The individual who had been interrupted a few times was now visibly embarrassed but, in a bold move, spoke more firmly. “Mr. Mitchell, I think discussing your grandson during a formal meeting isn’t really appropriate. Family matters shouldn’t be mixed with state affairs, don’t you agree?”
