Chapter 301 Something
Feels Off
Renee wasn’t seriously injured. With her martial arts, combat, and emergency rescue training, she knew exactly how to minimize harm to herself.
When she woke up, she felt something heavy resting on her arm.
Looking down, she saw Felix, fast asleep, sprawled across her hospital bed.
“You’re awake! How are you feeling?” William asked, his voice tinged with concern as he noticed her stirring
Renee smiled softly and replied, “What’s been happening lately? I swear, it feels like I’ve been cursed, ending up
in the hospital every other day.”
Hearing this, William immediately frowned, clearly displeased. “Why would you do something so reckless? Do
you realize that if things had gone wrong, you could’ve died?”
Renee pouted, her voice laced with defiance. “I saved Sylvia, and you’re still upset? If it weren’t for your sake…”
“I see Sylvia as a sister, Renee. I don’t want anything to happen to her, but I care even more about my wife’s
safety!” William’s tone was firm as he continued, “When you made that decision to risk your own life to save
her, did you stop to think about Felix waiting for you at home?”
“I did,” Renee replied, her voice softer now, “but I also didn’t want you to live with regret for the rest of your
life.”
Seeing that William was about to press the issue further, she quickly shifted the conversation. “But… don’t you
think there’s something odd about Sylvia’s situation? I feel like there’s more going on than meets the eye.” She looked at him curiously, adding, “Did your mom ever tell you why Sylvia wanted to see her?”
“She said they just talked, and Sylvia had decided to end her life. Maybe she wanted to say goodbye to my mom
before she died?” William explained, his voice tinged with concern.
“I still feel like something’s not right.” Renee’s brows furrowed as she pondered the situation, her mind racing.
At that moment, William seemed to recall something. “The people Damir sent arrived too quickly. It was as if
they knew Sylvia was going to try to take her own life there.”
“Why didn’t Damir stop her?” Renee asked, her voice full of confusion.
The entire situation was growing stranger by the minute.
Now that Sylvia had been taken away by Damir, there was no way for them to investigate further or uncover
the truth.
Just then, Felix stirred and slowly opened his eyes. When he saw Renee awake, his face lit up with joy.
“Mommy, you’re finally awake!”
Felix threw himself into Renee’s arms, his small body trembling with fear as he clung to her. “I was so scared, thinking Mommy would never wake up again.”
Renee’s heart melted at his words, and she held him tightly, her voice soothing as she whispered, “Don’t be scared, sweetheart. Mommy’s okay now. I just took a little nap.”
Felix pulled back slightly, his brows furrowed in disbelief. “Mommy’s lying! Naps don’t happen in the hospital!”
Renee couldn’t help but laugh at his serious expression. She quickly nodded, pretending to be contrite. “You’re right, baby. Mommy shouldn’t lie. I was only a little hurt, but I’m all better now!”
William couldn’t resist smirking at the situation. “Felix, you should make your mommy promise to be more
careful in the future!”
Renee shot him a glare, but he only looked more smug.
Finally, Felix, in full agreement, crossed his arms, eyes narrowing in an adorably serious expression. “Yes! Mommy has to promise!”
Renee sighed, her voice soft as she tried to calm him. “Felix, don’t be mad at Mommy, okay?”
He crossed his arms and pouted. “Humph! Mommy bad! She always gets hurt, and it makes me so worried. Every time she’s hurt, I get scared.”
Renee’s gaze flicked to William. His face darkened with each passing second, and she felt a knot twist in her stomach. Betrayed, of all things, by her own son.
“You’ve been getting hurt a lot?” William’s eyes narrowed. His voice was cold, more dangerous than she
expected.
