Chapter 300 Did You Hear
Me Clearly
“Jarrod! Something’s happened!” Marvin burst into Jarrod’s office, his voice frantic.
It wasn’t until after he spoke that he noticed about six sharply dressed men sitting in the room–clearly the top executives of Jarrod’s company.
“What’s all this noise about? Get out! I’m busy,” Jarrod snapped, his patience wearing thin.
Normally, Marvin would have quietly exited at the slightest hint of irritation from Jarrod. But this time, the
situation was different.
Steeling himself, Marvin stayed put, his eyes wide with desperation as he said, “Jarrod! This is really urgent!”
Jarrod rubbed his temples in frustration, exhaling sharply. When he finally looked up, his gaze landed on the group of men in suits, and he spoke with an apologetic tone. “Sorry, let’s wrap it up for now. We’ll continue
this in the afternoon.”
“Of course, Mr. Doyle,” one of the men replied.
“Goodbye, Mr. Doyle!” another added.
“Goodbye!” a third chimed in.
As the men walked past Marvin, each one offered him a friendly smile and a nod.
It was well–known throughout the company that Jarrod dotted on his brother.
He always indulged his younger brother’s requests, spoiling him with luxury items. Those who knew him well understood that, no matter where he traveled–whether near or far–he would bring back local specialties for
Marvin every time.
Once the men left, Jarrod turned his attention to Marvin and asked, “Alright, what’s going on? Why the rush? Why do you have to say it to me now?”
“Sylvia’s gone!” Marvin blurted out, getting straight to the point.
He watched Jarrod closely, waiting for any sign of a reaction. But Jarrod’s expression remained perfectly calm, his deep eyes showing no hint of emotion.
All he got in response was a simple, “Oh.”
Marvin was so stunned by the lack of reaction that he was momentarily speechless. After a while, he finally found his voice again.
“Jarrod, did you hear me clearly?” Marvin asked, his voice tinged with urgency. “I said, Sylvia’s gone!”
He slowed down his words, making sure his brother understood what he was saying
Over the years, he had never seen a woman by his brother’s side. Sylvia was the first.
To be honest, he never had a great impression of Sylvia. He always found her a bit scheming
At first, he had even considered looking into Sylvia’s background, vetting her for his brother. But he had eventually dropped the idea.
After all, it was rare for a woman to get close to Jarrod. Whether she was after money or something else, Marvin trusted that his brother had the judgment to figure it out. He knew Jarrod wouldn’t be easily duped by
a woman.
But now, to his surprise, Sylvia had actually left of her own accord.
“I wanted to tell you this sooner, but you weren’t answering your phone,” Marvin added, his frustration
mounting.
“I was in a meeting,” Jarrod replied flatly, his tone giving nothing away–nothing like someone who had just
learned the woman he cared for had left him.
Marvin couldn’t help but wonder if he had misread his brother’s feelings,
“I checked her flight details,” he continued. “I was going to chase after her…”
As Marvin spoke, the pen in Jarrod’s hand slipped from his fingers and fell to the floor.
Without missing a beat, Marvin bent down to pick it up for Jarrod and continued, “But I didn’t make it in time. By the time I got there, she was already on the plane.”
Jarrod’s gaze finally lifted, his eyes sharp as he asked, “Did you see her in person?”
“No.” Marvin chuckled as he teased his brother, “Jarrod, look at you–pretending not to care! You’re still worried about her, aren’t you? Did you do something to upset her? It’s fine; just go and find her when you’re done with work. Women are easy to comfort!“.
At that, Jarrod spoke again, his gaze locking with Marvin’s. “Do you know who signed those contracts and took the Mitchell family’s deals away from them?”
Marvin blinked in confusion, shaking his head. He wasn’t involved in the business side of things.
“It was Sylvia,” Jarrod continued, his voice colder now. “She used my name to sign those contracts behind my back. And now, our family is in the hot seat. We’re cornered–either we bring down the Mitchells, or they’ll bring us down. This whole mess… It’s all because of Sylvia.”
