Chapter 299 Because Of
You
“Nene!” William shouted, his eyes wide with panic.
For a moment, his heart felt like it had stopped, but when he saw Renee stir, it slowly started to beat again.
Then, in the next breath, Renee suddenly spat blood, the blood splattering onto Sylvia, who was cradled in her
arms.
William was on the brink of losing control of his emotions. Without thinking, he spun around and rushed down
the stairs.
Esme, sensing something, pushed herself off the wall, her legs unsteady. She hesitated before peering down cautiously. When she saw that Renee had actually caught Sylvia, her heart seemed to stop. The sight of blood
on both of them left her mind in a haze.
It wasn’t until she saw William appear near Renee and Sylvia that she snapped back into reality, hurrying down
to meet them.
Just then, William’s security team arrived, moving with practiced precision. Sylvia had lost consciousness, and despite spitting blood, Renee was still awake, her breath shallow.
William held Renee tightly in his arms, his voice shaking with panic. “How are you? Does it hurt? Where does it hurt? Are you feeling okay? Don’t move. It might hurt you more.”
Renee managed a faint smile, but it only triggered a violent cough, and with it came more blood. William’s face
drained of color as fear took hold.
“Where are the medical personnel? Why aren’t they here yet?” William’s shout rang out in desperation.
“They’ve been notified! They are already on their way, Mr. Mitchell.”
“It’s okay…” Renee whispered, her voice barely audible.
“Don’t speak. Nene, don’t speak.” William’s fear deepened. Her condition screamed of internal injuries–the
worst possible scenario.
“Why did you catch her? Why didn’t you think about your own safety…” William’s voice cracked, his emotions
unmistakable.
Renee felt her eyelids grow heavy, the familiar pull of unconsciousness creeping in. From past experiences, she knew she was about to faint. With all her strength, she forced her eyes open.
“Because of you…” she muttered, her voice low.
William clenched her cold hand, his grip tightening with understanding.
19:42
He knew. He understood her.
“Sorry, you can’t enter here!”
“Move aside!”
“I said, you can’t enter! Please step back!”
Hearing the commotion, William glanced up to see a group of people trying to force their way in, only to be blocked by his men. The leader of the group, if William remembered correctly, was someone from Damir’s team.
“Let them in,” William ordered, his voice firm.
The group stepped forward, and upon seeing William, they greeted him with respectful nods.
“Mr. Mitchell.”
William met their gaze. “Is Damir back as well?” he asked.
The leader shook his head. “Mr. Payne hasn’t returned. We are here to pick up Miss Payne.”
His eyes then flicked to Sylvia, filled with concern. “Mr. Mitchell, may we take Miss Payne away now?”
William’s brow furrowed as he processed the request.
The man added, “The plane’s ready for takeoff. If you have any questions later, feel free to reach out to Mr.
Payne directly.”
As he spoke, he gestured for his men to lift Sylvia and carry her away.
Esme, just reaching the scene, saw what was happening and asked, her voice laced with concern, “How is Sylvia?
Is she okay?”
“Don’t worry,” the man replied smoothly. “We’ve brought our own medical team. They’ll make sure Miss Payne
is taken good care of.”
Esme froze for a moment, unsure of who these people were. She assumed they were part of William’s security team and didn’t press further. Instead, she watched as Sylvia was gently placed into a sleek black car, her worry still gnawing at her.
William’s attention never wavered from Renee. By the time the medical team arrived, Renee had already lost consciousness. After a quick assessment, they confirmed that while Renee’s internal organs appeared unharmed, she still needed to be rushed to the hospital for further tests.
William stayed close to Renee, his focus unwavering. He asked Esme to return home, as someone still needed
to take care of Felix.
