Chapter 297 We Need To
Leave Now
While the internet exploded with harsh criticism of Renee and the Mitchell family, Renee and William remained
in their room, lost in a bubble of affection, not caring about the storm on the internet.
When they finally made their way downstairs, they found Felix alone on the living room sofa, absorbed in
playing with his toys. Eric still hadn’t come back, and Olivia was busy in the kitchen, preparing a meal.
William glanced around. “Felix, where’s your grandmother?” he asked.
Felix didn’t look up from his toys, “Grandma? I don’t know.”
Just then, Olivia walked by, carrying a dish to the dining table. She overheard William’s question and answered,
“Sir, your mother got a phone call and left about two hours ago.”
After saying this, Olivia turned back toward the kitchen. But then, as if a thought had struck her, she quickly
returned and added, “I think the call was from Miss Payne.”
William’s brow furrowed.
Renee’s expression tightened, though she wasn’t entirely certain what she was thinking was right.
William didn’t waste a second and asked, “Which Miss Payne?”
Olivia replied, “The one from the Payne family. I don’t know any other Miss Payne.”
Olivia only knew one Miss Payne–Sylvia Payne.
Renee and William exchanged a tense glance, and at that brief moment, the weight of unspoken words passed
between them.
They both knew Sylvia’s flight was at eleven.
Sylvia was about to leave, yet she had still called Esme before she left. What was she up to?
William pulled out his phone, dialing Esme’s number, but her phone had been turned off.
His jaw clenched, his mind racing with worry.
Renee didn’t hesitate. She turned to Olivia and said, “Olivia, stay here and take care of Felix for us. We need to
leave now.”
No more words were needed. Without a second thought, Renee and William slipped into their shoes, moving quickly to head out.
William reached the driver’s side and had just pulled open the door when Renee appeared beside him, her
voice calm but firm. “I’ll drive.”
19:42
William didn’t hesitate to comply. He slid into the passenger seat, pulling his phone from his pocket. As soon as he was settled, he began making calls.
His security team was top–notch. The moment they received his orders, they mobilized every available resource
to track down Sylvia and Esme.
Sylvia was clearly in a rush to catch her flight, so she wouldn’t have gone far. The location she picked to meet Esme had to be close to the airport. All they had to do was start with a small radius and widen it, inch by inch. They were bound to find them.
And sure enough, William’s phone buzzed rang through the drive.
“Mr. Mitchell, we’ve spotted a car that might belong to Miss Payne near an abandoned factory near the airport!”
The call was on speaker. As soon as it ended, Renee didn’t wait for William to say anything–she immediately
drove the car to the factory.
The car bumped and jolted as they drove down the dirt road, dust swirling in their wake with every uneven
patch.
Eventually, the car came to a halt in front of the abandoned factory, and there it was–a white car parked
nearby.
Renee and William quickly got out of the car, the silence of the place pressing in. The wind howled past them, the only sound breaking the stillness.
The security personnel were already on the way here.
William’s and Renee’s eyes drifted up to the rooftop. There, standing, were Sylvia and Esme. Their expressions were unreadable, but they seemed relatively calm from this distance.
The two on the rooftop noticed Renee and William, too, but the gap between them made it hard to make out their reactions clearly. Still, there was no mistaking it–Sylvia’s gaze was fixed on William.
“Maybe you should go up alone. I’ll wait here,” Renee said to William, her tone measured.
William looked at her, his eyes lingering for a moment before he nodded. His voice softened. “Alright. Be
careful.”
Without another word, he turned and made his way into the factory. Renee, sensing that her presence might only provoke Sylvia further, stepped back under a nearby tree, keeping herself out of Sylvia’s sight.
After years of entanglement, it was time to settle everything and put an end to this. Renee didn’t hate Sylvia- not anymore. She believed everything that had happened was just fate’s doing.
