Chapter 293 He Needs To Stay Far Away From Her
“Jarrod! Jarrod!” Marvin’s voice echoed from the bottom of the stairs.
“Marvin, Jarrod is upstairs!” the housekeeper said.
“I’m going to find him!” Marvin replied.
His footsteps hurried up the stairs. Jarrod stepped out of the bedroom just as Marvin reached the floor.
“What’s all the commotion about? Why are you in such a rush?” Jarrod asked, his tone sharp.
Marvin quickly adopted a composed demeanor, though his voice betrayed his urgency. “Jarrod, what’s going on? Why is everyone saying you’re betraying the Mitchell family? Why are you suddenly going after them?”
Jarrod didn’t respond directly, instead turning to head down the stairs.
Marvin, growing more anxious, followed closely behind, his steps quick.
He said, “Jarrod, tell me something! Has our family grown so powerful that you are now brave enough to target the Mitchell family?”
Noticing Jarrod’s silence, he continued to call out, “Jarrod! Jarrod!”
Jarrod paused at the landing and then turned to face his brother with a steady gaze. “Are you concerned about the Mitchell family or Renee?” he asked.
For a moment, Marvin was caught off guard, unsure how to respond. Finally, he said, “I am concerned about our family, about you! Why would you ask me such a question?”
A small smile tugged at the corner of Jarrod’s lips at his brother’s words.
“That’s good. It seems all the care I’ve shown for you is worth it!” Jarrod said, his expression softening before
he turned to continue down the stairs.
Marvin stood there for a second, confused, before realizing his brother had just been testing him.
He hurried after Jarrod, catching up to him in the foyer where Jarrod was putting on his shoes, preparing to leave. “Jarrod, where are you going?” Marvin asked, his voice laced with concern.
“To the company,” Jarrod replied, grabbing his car keys from the table.
After a pause, he added, “For a shareholders‘ meeting.”
Marvin’s eyes widened in shock. “Jarrod! Are you really going after the Mitchell family?”
Jarrod turned back to look at him, raising an eyebrow in amusement. “What? Are you scared?” he asked.
Marvin instinctively nodded and then immediately shook his head, his eyes locking onto his brother’s. “As long as you’re here, I’m not afraid of anything!” he said firmly.
Jarrod grinned, clearly pleased with his brother’s response, and didn’t hold back his praise, “Your words are sweeter than usual today! Remember that watch you wanted last month? Consider it yours!”
“Thanks, Jarrod!” Marvin’s face instantly lit up with joy,
But as the roar of Jarrod’s car faded into the distance, Marvin suddenly realized his brother had never actually answered his question. His frustration boiled over, and he stomped his foot. “He still treats me like a kid! How
could he still do that to me now?”
What made him even angrier was the fact that he had actually been swayed by his brother’s words.
The housekeeper, stepping out of the kitchen, caught sight of Marvin’s seething expression and couldn’t help
but laugh. “Who’s gotten you all worked up this time?”
“It’s my brother!! He always treats me like I’m still a child! I’m twenty–two years old now! I am an adult already,
and I can even get married now,” Marvin said, throwing his arms up in frustration.
“Oh, really? So, do you have some particular you want to marry in mind?” the housekeeper teased, a playful
smile tugging at her lips.
“Well, no!” Marvin quickly answered,
In the brief silence that followed, an image of Renee’s face flashed in Marvin’s mind.
He quickly shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
This couldn’t be happening! He didn’t want to have feelings for Renee!
Aside from her beautiful face, everything else about her was downright terrifying!
Her temper was frightening, her personality was daunting, and her fighting skills were intimidating. The people
she surrounded herself with were also scary.
She was someone to avoid. He needed to stay far away from her.
“Well, then I hope you find someone special soon.” The housekeeper chuckled.
Marvin pouted, clearly frustrated. “My brother isn’t even married yet. If he’s not in any rush, neither am I.”
At that moment, Marvin’s gaze wandered, and he curiously asked, “By the way, where’s that woman? She is not home today?”
The housekeeper replied, “You mean Miss Payne? She left early this morning with a big suitcase. Probably off on a business trip…”
Marvin furrowed his brows. A business trip?
Sylvia didn’t even have a job–what business trip could she possibly be on?
Could it be…
Marvin’s eyes widened as an idea struck him. He rushed to the sunroom, throwing open the door. He quickly found the annoying little black cat was gone!
