Chapter 283 The Online
Buzz
“And you cops, what good are you? You take a salary from the country but can’t even do your jobs properly! What’s the point of having you around?” Once the man lost his temper, all restraint went out the window.
Denton let out a short, angry laugh. “Etta? A good person? Kind–hearted? Maybe you should go home and turn on the news before embarrassing yourself here!”
The police officers furrowed their brows, clearly losing patience. One of the older officers stepped forward, his tone sharp. “We enforce the law based on solid evidence. You are suspected of causing trouble here, so taking you in for questioning is standard protocol. As for Etta Cruz, she was caught red -handed using drugs in her own home. Her case will be handled by the appropriate authorities. Now stop making a scene and face the facts!”
“Drugs? No way! Where is the proof? Have the test results even come out yet?” someone in the crowd said, unwilling to believe it.
Denton scoffed, his voice laced with sarcasm, “You really won’t believe it
until the truth smacks you in the face, huh?”
With a few swift taps on his phone, he pulled up the breaking news about Etta’s arrest and shoved the screen in their faces. The video played in crisp
detail.
He said, “Look at her! So skinny and acting all jittery–classic signs of a drug user. And you still want to believe she is innocent? Open your eyes and start facing reality!”
William, standing beside the officer, finally spoke in a calm yet firm voice. “I’ll cover the medical expenses for that injured person. But if you all refuse
to cooperate, I won’t hesitate to take legal action against you. My wife has already been harmed because of this nonsense.”
One by one, the group of fans was rounded up and escorted into the waiting police cars. The injured individual was rushed to the hospital.
With the sirens blaring, the police cars gradually moved away from the alley.
And just like that, the once–chaotic alley fell into silence.
William, however, was still uneasy. His attention turned to Renee as he scanned her carefully once more, making sure she hadn’t suffered any injuries. Only when he was completely sure did he finally allow himself to relax.
Once they were inside the car, Renee turned to William. “Besides Etta, were there others arrested?”
“Yes,” William replied, his voice steady. “But since they’re somewhat well- known in the entertainment industry, their names haven’t been released yet. The authorities are keeping it quiet for now to avoid stirring up more chaos.”
The attack on Renee had already set the internet ablaze.
Blurry videos of Renee being ambushed had flooded major social media platforms, triggering an all–out war among netizens.
Etta’s die–hard fans refused to believe the allegations, stubbornly standing by their idol. They flooded comment sections with blind devotion, spewing
venom at Renee.
“Renee is a scheming bitch! She deserves worse!”
“The fans must’ve been pushed to the edge for them to react like that! If I were in Tofral, I would go and slap Renee, too!”
On the other side, rational voices fought back, outraged by the sheer injustice of the attack.
“I don’t know why, but I’ve never liked Etta.”
“Same! Something about her always felt… off. Like she always tries too hard to act sweet.”
“This is just straight–up bullying. A dozen people against one woman? Outrageous!”
“No matter the reason, ganging up on someone like that is not a right thing!”
Renee let out a quiet sigh as she locked her phone and set it aside. The online battlefield didn’t faze her–she knew how these things worked. In a few days, another scandal would pop up, and people would forget all about this.
Such was the ever–fickle nature of the internet.
