Chapter 274 I Like That
About You
“I’m heading out to back up my wife in a fight!” William declared, his tone so lighthearted that it was almost comical. He acted as if this were the most natural thing in the world.
Yet the idea of him actually throwing a punch? The internet would probably explode within hours!
“Don’t even think about it!” Renee quickly said, her tone sharp and unyielding.
Hearing her words, William leaned back in his seat, a sly grin tugging at his lips. “So,” he said, his voice shifting to a playful yet persuasive tone, “are you still planning to go?”
Renee stared at him, caught between irritation and resignation. The fire of her earlier anger had already subsided.
She said, “Fine, I won’t go. No need to push me like that.”
“I’m not trying to upset you,” William murmured, his fingers intertwining with hers as he lifted her hand to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to its back. “Nene, whatever you want to do, even if it means defying the entire world, I’ll be there with you. But…”
His eyes locked onto hers, filled with an unshakable sincerity as his voice softened. “I can’t bear the thought of you getting hurt. I just want you to be happy; that’s all.”
The tenderness in his gaze was overwhelming, and Renee instinctively turned her face away, but not quickly enough to stop the tear that slipped down her cheek.
That long–empty place in her heart, hollow and untouched for years, suddenly felt filled to the brim–aching and warm, almost unbearable in its fullness.
Noticing Renee’s emotions, William gently placed his hands on her shoulders, guiding her to face him. His thumb brushed away the tear tracing her cheek, his expression as soft as his touch.
He said, “Don’t cry, Nene. Seeing your tears makes me feel like I’ve failed you all over again. I have been such an idiot in the past–I know that. But I swear, I will never let you endure anything like that again. Not even for a moment.”
Renee sniffled, trying to regain control over herself, but the tears refused to stop. It wasn’t like her to cry so suddenly, but for some reason, she just couldn’t stop crying now.
“Since when did you get so good at saying all these sweet words?” Her voice wavered with a mix of shyness and disbelief. “It’s not like you at all!”
William laughed softly, his warm chuckle a stark contrast to his usual demeanor. “If I stayed cold and distant like before, wouldn’t you leave me again?”
He then placed her hand firmly on his chest, his tone steady yet full of sincerity as he added, “From now on, I’ll take care of you and Felix. You’re my family, and I won’t let either of you down.”
He paused, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “But you can’t just leave without telling me again. If I upset you, feel free to hit me or scold me, but leaving me isn’t an option.”
Renee let out a soft snort, her voice cold as she replied, “Don’t forget about your parents. They don’t want me back.”
“They have already accepted you,” William said.
Renee let out a self–deprecating laugh. “Oh, I see. It’s all because of Felix,
isn’t it?”
If Felix weren’t William’s son, with the Mitchell family’s blood running through his veins, would Esme have softened toward her?
“Not exactly.” William drew her close, resting his chin gently on her head. “Nene, three years isn’t too long, nor is it too short. It has been just enough time for them to come to terms with things. My mother has already accepted you long ago, though she struggled to admit it before. Felix just gave her the reason she needed.”
“Really?” Renee’s tone was skeptical. “I find that hard to believe. Wasn’t your mother always pushing you to marry Sylvia? In her eyes, Sylvia is the perfect daughter–in–law.”
William said, “Well, not exactly. Sylvia is one option, but there are also
Roxanne and Laurie. My mother tends to favor ladies from refined families, those who know how to carry themselves well.”
Renee raised an eyebrow, her face going icy. “So, are you implying I’m not
well–mannered? That I’m too wild?”
William met her gaze, his expression serious, before he slowly nodded. “Yes, you’re wild. No denying that.”
Renee shot him a fierce look, but he quickly added

Renee shot him a fierce look, but he quickly added with a grin, “But honestly, I kind of like that about you.”
