Chapter 268 Let Daddy
Hold You
When Renee came downstairs, Esme and Eric had just returned from outside.
Having just helped in the garden, the two of them, typically so meticulous about their appearance, now looked like a typical couple who had been hard at work, completely unconcerned about how they looked.
When Esme saw Renee come down, her expression was a bit stiff.
Renee glanced at her, aware that the unresolved tensions between them couldn’t just vanish. It was normal that their interactions felt strained now.
“I have things to do, so I’ll be leaving now,” Renee said, her tone calm.
Esme was stunned by this. Her eyes widened in surprise as she quickly hurried to explain, “We’ve already taken care of the garden! From now on, there won’t be any trace of pollen left in here!”
Renee just gave Esme a calm look, not saying anything.
Seeing she was getting no response, Esme hastily added, “You can tell us Felix’s preferences or anything we need to watch out for. My husband and I will be extra careful! I promise that nothing like the incident today will happen again!”
Esme had never spoken to Renee so politely before. Now, for Felix’s sake, she was willing to lower her pride and speak like this.
This was a side of her Renee hadn’t seen before.
Renee raised an eyebrow, a slight coldness in her gaze. She sneered inwardly.
“If you’re still worried, we could hire a nanny to handle Felix’s daily needs,” Eric suggested.
Renee was a bit shocked by their efforts.
“Mommy…” a small, innocent voice called out from the staircase.
At the sound of Felix’s voice, everyone in the living room looked up at him with nothing but concern and affection.
“Felix! Why didn’t you sleep a little longer?” Renee said, her voice filled with both relief and worry.
Felix quickly rushed into Renee’s arms, but before she could fully embrace him, William stepped forward, gently lifting Felix to his arms. “Mommy’s tired. Let Daddy hold you.”
“Mommy, can you stay here with me?” Felix asked, his voice soft and pleading.
Renee’s expression hardened, and she scolded him, saying, “Will you ever stop disobeying and putting yourself in danger? Felix, if this happens again, Mommy will have to punish you.”
“Hey, don’t scare the poor child!” Esme intervened, her voice disapproving.
But Eric quickly stopped her. “Let his parents discipline him. Don’t interfere! The child is still young and needs to understand what’s right.”
Esme, though reluctant, closed her mouth, seeing Felix on the verge of
tears.
Renee continued, her tone steady, “Felix has his own way of life and habits. I hope you won’t try to change that. As long as he’s not doing anything wrong, please don’t interfere.”
“Of course, we’ll respect that,” Esme said quickly, eager to avoid any conflict with Renee.
“Felix’s pollen allergy needs constant attention,” Renee reminded them.
“We understand. We’ll be more careful from now on,” Esme responded with a smile.
Renee then turned and stared directly at William.
William, not understanding her, quickly answered, “I’ll be careful too!”
Renee raised an eyebrow, her tone cold. “Shouldn’t you be heading back to the hospital?”
William was rendered momentarily at a loss for words.
Why would he go back now?
But Renee was determined. She grabbed William’s arm and began pulling him toward the door.
She said, “A patient like you should be at the hospital, not wasting time here!”
“I’m really fine!” William protested, wanting to stay here.
But before Renee could respond, Eric gave William a firm slap on the back
of his head.
“When you’re told to go, you go!” Eric said, his voice stern. “You’re just causing more trouble at home anyway!”
