Chapter 264 I Need You To
Be There For Him
“Why did you decide to confess your love to me all of a sudden?” Renee asked.
Renee was genuinely confused. William’s unexpected confession had startled her to the point that she had almost crashed the car!
Luckily, her professional driving skills–developed during her days of chasing down thieves–had kicked in just in time, but she had come dangerously close to losing control of the car earlier.
If she crashed again today, she would seriously start questioning her luck.
In stark contrast to Renee’s shock, William appeared completely unfazed, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Calmly, he responded, “You were upset, and I just wanted to make you happy.”
Renee was left speechless.
Somehow, his words only managed to annoy her even more.
But then it hit her–it was William who had just said those words, and there was a weight behind his words that she couldn’t ignore.
She knew that with him, she had to be direct, or he wouldn’t understand the meaning of what she meant. Pulling over to the side of the road, Renee turned to William, her tone serious.
She said, “William, the reason we’ve gotten this far is because we’ve always understood each other. We’ve always tried to consider each other’s feelings. But now, I need to tell you something: since we’ve committed to each other, you need to be responsible for both of us! You’re not in the
military anymore. I don’t care what you were like before, but from this point on, I won’t let you gamble with your life anymore!”
William listened quietly, his gaze fixed on her.
“If this happens again, I’ll be truly angry! William, do you understand me?” Renee continued, her voice firm.
But after several seconds of silence, William still didn’t respond.
Then, without warning, he reached out, cupping the back of Renee’s head and pulling her into a passionate kiss.
Renee was caught off guard by the suddenness of the kiss, her eyes widening as her hands instinctively pressed against William’s chest.
But the intensity of his kiss, full of emotion and longing, soon overpowered her initial shock. Slowly, her hands relaxed, and she found herself responding to the kiss, unable to resist the pull between them.
The air in the car thickened, and the atmosphere shifted into something much more affectionate.
After a while, William finally pulled back, resting his forehead gently against Renee’s. He muttered, “Nene…”
He softly uttered her name.
His soft murmur wrapped around Renee’s heart, evoking memories of the past.
“I’m sorry… I was wrong,” William continued.
Renee nodded softly, her voice now gentler, “This is the last time. From now on, no matter what happens, I need you to always prioritize your safety.”
William nodded in agreement. “Okay.”
But Renee, though reassured, still couldn’t fully believe him. She added in
a serious tone, “Remember, you’re not a soldier anymore. You don’t need to
put your life on the line for anyone.”
William quickly replied, “Alright…”
Renee continued, her thoughts turning to Felix, “We have Felix now… You have already missed two years of his life. I need you to be there for him from now on. We have a long road ahead of us.”
The mention of Felix brought a mix of emotions to William–heartache and happiness intertwined.
He had never known the challenges of being a father, and he had no idea what it had been like for Renee to raise their child alone before.
Imagining the difficulties Renee must have faced over the past two years made his heart ache. He gently drew her into his arms, as if trying to hold the weight of her world for her.
To think, Renee had once struggled just to take care of herself. She was still so young, yet she had managed to care for a baby all on her own. How had she gotten through it?
“Let’s go home now…” William let go of Renee, and his voice was soft yet firm. “Let’s head home and go get our son.”
