Chapter 263 A Sudden Confession
William glanced at Renee, clearly upset beside him, feeling completely lost. He had never been good at offering comfort. Well, except for when Sylvia had been a child–whenever she was upset, he would buy her a lollipop.
And that would always bring a smile to her face.
But Renee wasn’t Sylvia, and she was far past the age where some candy could make everything better.
William felt completely out of his depth.
As the scenery sped past outside the window, the tension inside the car felt thick and unyielding.
Clearing his throat, William said softly, “Nene…”
Renee didn’t even acknowledge him, her gaze fixed ahead.
William said again, “Nene—”
“William, I’m really angry right now. Don’t say anything else,” Renee interjected, her voice cold.
William wisely fell silent.
A moment passed before he pulled out his phone, pretending to be absorbed in something. But Renee only grew more frustrated. In her irritation, she pressed harder on the accelerator, speeding through a red light.
William glanced at her and then reminded her in a low voice, “You just ran a red light. That’s a two hundred fine.”
Renee rolled her eyes and shot back, “I’m not worried about money!”
Her anger seemed to have intensified, not lessened.
William scratched his head awkwardly and then pulled out his phone again, sending a message to Denton.
“Renee is still mad! What can I do to make her not upset?”
Denton responded almost immediately with a string of laughing emojis, followed by, “So, you’ve finally met your match?”
William wasn’t amused. He quickly replied, “Either give me advice, or you’re going on my blacklist. Your choice.”
Denton took a moment to respond, finally typing out his reply two minutes later.
“Sweet talk her, prepare something special, and surprise her! Remember how Renee used to chase after you with all those grand gestures? Just copy what she used to do and do it to her.”
William’s expression changed as he read the message, the memories of Renee’s relentless pursuit flashing through his mind.
He remembered the first time she had confessed to him–standing at the school gate, surrounded by many roses, each one carefully arranged. When he had stepped out, he had noticed the crowd gathered at the entrance, but he hadn’t been one to get caught up in the spectacle. Still, when he had looked up, his gaze had met Renee, standing in the middle of the sea of roses, holding a megaphone.
Truthfully, the roses had seemed insignificant compared to Renee’s radiant presence.
At that time, Renee had carried herself with undeniable confidence. Wherever she went, she would effortlessly become the center of attention.
With a beaming smile, Renee had raised the megaphone and boldly
declared, “William, I like you. From this moment on, you’re my boyfriend!”
William exhaled sharply, and without a second thought, he turned toward Renee.
With complete sincerity, he announced, “Renee! I like you! From the past to the future, you were, are, and will be the only woman I love!”
The sound of tires screeching against the pavement filled the air as Renee slammed on the brakes.
If not for her impeccable driving skills, they would have likely crashed.
Once the car was under control, Renee turned to William, her eyes wide with surprise.
William, who had just poured his heart out, was also stunned by Renee’s
reaction.
Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined seeing such a confused look
on Renee’s face.
“What… What are you doing?” Renee asked, her voice full of bewilderment.
William blinked, utterly confused himself. “I… I’m confessing my love to
you.”
Renee stared at him in disbelief.
William, still uncertain, asked, “You don’t like it?”
Renee took a deep breath, releasing it slowly as she tried to keep her emotions in check. She then said, “So, out of the blue, why are you confessing your love to me?”
