Chapter 261 You Can’t Just
Leave
Renee had already dialed the police before Ivory could even make her call.
“Please have the nearest police station on Blossom Lane send someone over. I’ll send the address right away.”
The call was brief and authoritative.
When Renee ended the call, Ivory was left speechless, and Valery’s fear made her tremble.
Ivory’s voice trembled as she asked, “Who… Who did you just call?”
Renee glanced at her, unbothered, and replied, “The police, of course. Weren’t you planning to call them? Someone from the nearby station will be here soon. You can voice your complaints to them directly. Though I imagine they are probably making a stop to grab me a coffee. I assume you’re not in any rush, are you? I certainly am not.”
“Ivory, what should we do?” Valery asked, gripping her daughter’s hand in fear.
At that moment, Ivory’s unease began to grow. She had seen Renee’s influence before, and now, with the composed way she spoke, it seemed like Renee had the police at her disposal.
How could someone like Renee hold such power? She thought Renee had fallen from her previous status already.
Ivory’s indignation burned within her.
The police arrived not long after.
The officer leading them really held a cup of coffee.
Ivory’s eyes blazed with jealousy,
“Are you Ms. Carter?” the officer asked.
Renee simply nodded. “That’s me.”
Her demeanor was cool and composed, unlike the usual nervousness ordinary citizens might show when confronted by the police.
The officer handed her the coffee with great respect. “Ms. Carter, our chief has instructed us to cooperate with you.”
When Ivory heard this, her anger boiled over, and she couldn’t keep it in any longer.
She pointed at the officers and yelled, “Isn’t this going too far? Are you really police officers? You seem more like thugs, colluding with this woman right in front of us! I’ll make sure to expose you!”
“Miss, please watch your language!” the officer said.
“Why should I? Your conduct is suspicious! It’s because she has money, isn’t it? How much did she pay you?” Ivory exclaimed in anger.
“Miss, you’re defaming us!” the police officer said with a serious expression.
At that moment, Renee stood up and pointed at Valery, saying, “This lady hit my car and fled the scene after causing the accident! I have clear surveillance footage as proof. I’ll send you the video. Now, I’ll leave this in your hands, as I have other things to take care of.”
With that, Renee began to walk out.
Furious, Ivory attempted to block her path. “You can’t just leave!”
Just as Ivory reached out to grab Renee, Rosa, who had been standing nearby quietly, quickly intervened to block Ivory, moving faster than anyone could react.
Renee glanced back, a bit shocked at the intensity of Rosa’s glare directed at Ivory.
“Move aside!” Ivory snapped at Rosa.
Rosa didn’t respond or even budge, her gaze fixed on Ivory, full of resolve.
At the sight of Rosa’s expression, Ivory’s anger shifted into a mocking grin. “Well, look at that… She’s an idiot.”
Rosa’s eyes welled with a sorrowful sense of hurt when she heard Ivory’s insult, but she remained silent, her gaze turning toward Renee, silently pleading for help.
Still, her hands stayed stretched out in stubborn defiance, unmoving.
“We should go,” Renee said to Rosa.
Rosa remained rooted to the spot.
“The police officers are here, they’ll take care of the matter,” Renee added, her tone reassuring.
Seeing this, the officer quickly said, “Absolutely, we’ll handle it. You can go now, Ms. Carter.”
Only then did Rosa slowly lower her hands, casting one last defiant glare at Ivory as she turned away.
Renee couldn’t help but smile, thinking that Rosa’s innocence, despite the situation, made her even more endearing.
