Chapter 259 Crying Won’t Change Anything
“Valery.” Renee’s voice was calm, but it carried no warmth.
As soon as Valery heard Renee’s voice, her face drained of color, shock evident in her expression. The call that
had just ended was still fresh in her mind.
Seeing the panic on Valery’s face, Renee was sure Valery knew exactly who she was. Coldly, she asked, “Now,
can we sit down and talk about the compensation?”
Valery’s eyes darted nervously, her panic rising. She didn’t answer immediately, taking a few steps backward
instead.
Renee’s gaze became steely.
Just as Valery reached for the doorknob, attempting to slam the door shut, Renee swiftly blocked it with her
foot.
In a rush of panic, Valery tried to force the door shut, but she hadn’t expected Renee to have so much strength.
“You horrible woman!” Rosa cried out, stepping forward and pushing Valery back into the house.
Seizing the chance, Renee quickly entered the house.
“Ms. Chapman, let me make one thing clear. Now that I’ve found you, it means I have evidence of what you did! Are you sure you want to handle the matter like this?” Renee’s voice was calm and unyielding.
She entered the living room and sat down with confidence, her legs crossed. At that moment, it felt as though she were the owner of this place, and Valery seemed like the guest here.
Realizing she could no longer escape the confrontation, Valery lowered her gaze, her hands twisting nervously. Slowly, she began, her voice trembling as she tried to defend herself, “I swear, I didn’t… I didn’t mean to do it.”
But Renee had no patience for excuses.
She pulled out screenshots and videos from her dashcam, laying them out for Valery.
She said, “You might not have hit me intentionally, but you deliberately avoided taking responsibility afterward! From the moment you hit my car to when you walked away, you didn’t even bother to check my license plate. Ms. Chapman, this is a hit–and–run.”
When Valery was faced with undeniable proof, panic overtook her face.
Realizing there was no way out, she finally gave in.
“Fine, I admit it. I was the one who hit your car.” Valery sighed heavily and then broke down in tears. “Please, It have the money to compensate you Look at my home–this is all I have. I have
three kids to raise and elderly parents to take care of back in my hometown. Please, have mercy. Let the matter go.”
Renee was stunned for a moment, not knowing what to say.
Rosa stepped forward, her patience wearing thin. “Stop crying! Crying won’t change anything!”
“Life is really tough for me…” Valery murmured, still sniffling.
Renee remained silent, observing the place.
The living conditions were humble but not destitute–there was enough furniture to meet basic needs.
“Forget it,” Renee interjected calmly. “As long as you take responsibility for this, I can let the matter slide. From
now on-
”
Before she could finish, they heard hurried footsteps outside the door.
Valery’s face immediately tightened with unease.
Renee’s instincts kicked in. Something was off.
The sound of someone unlocking the door followed.
Valery quickly stood up, seemingly wanting to either open the door or block it.
Noticing her sudden movement, Renee swiftly positioned herself in front of her to stop her, eyes narrowing with suspicion. “Who just arrived?”
Valery hesitated, clearly anxious.
“I… I’m not sure. Maybe someone is at the wrong door. It happens all the time here. Let me go and take a look,” Valery said, her voice shaky, attempting to walk past Renee toward the door.
But Valery’s efforts were no match for Renee’s strength. Renee stopped her.
“Then there’s no need to care about that,” Renee said coolly.
