Chapter 250 Could She
Have Truly Been Broken
The sound of footsteps overhead made it clear–Renee was leaving with
Felix after all.
Eric and Esme, lounging on the couch, didn’t bother to look up. They remained lost in their own thoughts, silently fuming.
But their detached demeanor didn’t last long. Renee’s voice rang out suddenly from the front door, sharp and decisive. “I’ll return tomorrow to
take Felix home.”
Hearing this, both Eric and Esme immediately perked up, their heads snapping toward her direction in surprise and delight.
Their eyes darted to Renee, noticing Felix wasn’t beside her. Their expressions lit up with relief, their excitement plain to see.
Yet before they could gather their thoughts and respond, Renee had already turned on her heel and walked out the door.
At the hospital, William’s sharp eyes caught Renee entering alone, and his expression darkened. “Did my parents refuse to let Felix go? Nene, don’t worry I’ll call them right now. I’ll make sure they hand him over!”
“There’s no need,” Renee replied, her voice flat but firm.
William’s brows furrowed, confusion written all over his face.
Renee sank onto the hospital bed, completely drained, with no desire to
move even an inch.
“Nene,” William murmured, rising from his bed and crossing over to her side. He sat by her bedside and gently clasped her hand, his grip steady and

warm, as though trying to lend her strength. “My parents understand now that Felix is their grandson. They’ll look after him and give him the love he deserves. Their ways might seem… inappropriate, but don’t hold it against them, okay?”
“I’m not upset with them,” Renee said softly, her voice carrying a strange
calmness.
She sat up slowly, meeting William’s gaze with an intensity that made him
pause.
Her next words came deliberately, each syllable measured. “Your parents couldn’t do anything to me, William. It was me… I smashed your place.”
For a moment, William was stunned, his expression blank as he tried to process her words.
She shared the events that transpired at the Mitchell estate. When she spoke of taking down several soldiers on her own, a flicker of pride appeared on William’s face.
“You’re not upset?” Renee asked, her voice filled with uncertainty.
William hesitated for a moment before responding, “Upset?”
After a brief pause, he said, “I am a little upset! They took Felix back without your approval and tried to keep him there. That was completely crossing the line! Nene, I’ll make sure to have a serious talk with them!”
Renee pressed her lips together, her expression hardening slightly.
She was on the verge of speaking when, from the corner of her eye, she noticed a piece of clothing by the door of the hospital room.
Her gaze sharpened in an instant, her senses immediately on high alert.
“Who’s there?” Her voice carried a sharp edge, a clear warning.
The piece of clothing shifted slightly, but the person remained hidden, refusing to step forward.

“Come out!” Renee’s tone grew firmer, more commanding. “If you don’t, don’t blame me for being harsh!”
As if on cue, a head emerged from behind the door.
The messy hair of the person immediately struck Renee.
For a moment, she was frozen.
It took her a few seconds to process the sight–standing there, disheveled
and unkempt, was Rosa.
The Rosa she remembered, always immaculate and elegant, had transformed into a girl who seemed lost–standing there in pajamas, her hair unbrushed and her face free of makeup.
“Rosa? Is that you?”
“Renee… I…” Rosa’s voice was soft, filled with hesitation, as though she
feared Renee would be angry and send her away.
Renee frowned, her concern deepening. “Why are you here? What happened to you?”
Rosa dropped her gaze, her fingers nervously twisting, too embarrassed to meet Renee’s eyes or make a move to step inside.
This version of Rosa was nothing like the girl Renee remembered. Could she have truly been broken by that event?
“Come on in,” Renee finally said, her voice gentler now.
With a hesitant nod, Rosa stepped inside the room.
Only then did Renee notice that Rosa was barefoot, her delicate feet dirty and marked with small cuts.
Renee couldn’t help but wonder how long Rosa had been wandering, her feet suffering the effects of her aimless journey.
