Chapter 246 Believe Me
A wave of relief washed over William when he realized Felix was at least safe. But that relief quickly soured.
How dare his parents make such a decision without consulting him? He had already made it clear he wouldn’t fight Renee for custody–why were they overstepping?
If this kept up, Renee might leave him again–along with their son.
“Nene, believe me, I had no idea about this,” William said, his voice earnest. “Let’s bring Felix back.”
Renee’s anger softened a bit at his sincere tone, but she still looked displeased.
“You’re still injured. You can’t leave the hospital. I’ll go alone,” she said, her voice firm. “Besides, what good would it do for you to go? They’re your parents. Are you really going to fight them?”
With that, Renee turned and left, heading to Mitchell Mansion alone, leaving William behind in the hospital.
When Renee knocked on the door, it was Olivia Mason, the housekeeper,
who answered.
Having worked at Mitchell Mansion for over a decade, Olivia recognized Renee instantly. She hesitated for a moment before offering a stiff greeting. “Mrs. Mitchell…”
“Olivia, it’s been a while,” Renee replied with a nod.
Renee had always had a better impression of Olivia than of Esme.
At least Olivia could cook–a skill that counted for something. Esme, on the

other hand,, was a spoiled, clueless woman in Renee’s eyes.
Esme had been born into wealth, married well, and spent her days in luxury. But she had no real skills–just another pampered, useless middle- aged woman.
“What brings you back?” Olivia asked, her tone polite but cautious.
Renee gave a soft smile, her voice calm as she asked, “Olivia, did Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell bring home a little boy, about two years old?”
Olivia seemed taken off guard. She hesitated, her words stumbling. “I… I’m not… really… sure.”
Renee’s suspicions only grew stronger at Olivia’s reaction. She didn’t push further, choosing instead to walk inside on her own.
As soon as she entered the living room, she heard Felix’s voice. “Grandpa, grandpa!”
Renee’s expression darkened. The repeated calls of “grandpa” grated on her nerves, each one like an annoying echo.
“Felix, grandma is here! Come to grandma!”
Renee stepped into the room and found Eric holding Felix, while Esme entertained him with toys. Both of them wore wide smiles, and Felix was laughing joyfully in their arms.
But Renee’s expression darkened.
It felt like they were slowly taking her son away from her.
“Felix! Come here—” Renee called out, her voice firm and steady.
Only then did the trio in the living room turn to notice her presence.
“Mommy-” Felix’s face lit up with a bright, innocent smile, a sharp contrast to the sudden coldness in Esme’s expression.
“Mommy, I was playing with grandpa and grandma!”
Renee didn’t spare a glance for Eric or Esme. She crouched down, gently took the toy from Felix’s hand, and softened her voice as much as she could. “Felix, be a good boy, Let’s go home with Mommy now, okay?”
Felix looked confused, his brow furrowing. “Mommy, isn’t this also our home? Grandpa, grandma, and daddy are living here, so it’s my home too, right?”
Renee’s heart ached, but she couldn’t afford to let Esme have the satisfaction. She had to be firm, though she tried to keep her words gentle
for Felix’s sake.
“No, this isn’t your home,” Renee said, her tone sharp enough for everyone
in the room to hear.
Esme’s face turned red with anger. She shot up from her seat, her voice rising. “That’s not true! Felix is our grandson, so this is his home! Is this how you teach your child?”
