Chapter 240 He Smiled At
You
“Why are you acting so weird today?” Lula was visibly agitated. “Of course,
I would have to see Mr. Mitchell to change his dressing. Who else would I be tending to? What’s with the surprise?”
Ivory was stunned.
“Oh… is that so? Haha… It’s nothing. I was just kidding!” Despite her casual dismissal, Ivory let out a sigh of relief.
Lula was dumbfounded by her behavior.
Luckily for Ivory, Lula had other responsibilities and had no time to probe further into her strange mood today.
As she moved to prepare medications for other patients, Lula glanced at Ivory and said with a grin, “You know, I think Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Carter are such a lovely pair! They both look so charming, and William is particularly thoughtful towards Ms. Carter.”
This comment clearly upset Ivory, but Lula was too busy with her tasks to
notice.
“Is that so?” Ivory responded, barely interested.
“Yes!” another nurse chimed in, and Lula got excited. “I know, right? When I went into the room earlier, Ms. Carter was sleeping, and Mr. Mitchell
gestured for me to be quiet to avoid waking her.”
Ivory bit her lip.
Renee had obviously fallen asleep after a tiring sex.
Lula kept sharing. “Mr. Mitchell was really cheerful today and he even
smiled at me!”
“He smiled at you?”
Blushing slightly, Lula nodded. “Haha, tell you what–Mr. Mitchell has such a charming smile!”
Ivory felt her spirits sink further. William had never once smiled at her.
Six years ago, she had crossed paths with William. If only she had made more of an effort then to get his attention, maybe she would be the one receiving his affections now.
“Ivory! Are you lost in thought again?”
“What?” Ivory snapped back to the present. She was puzzled as she looked at Lula and asked, “What did you just say?”
Lula rolled her eyes playfully and laughed. “I was saying… your ‘boyfriend‘ has come to see you again!”
Upon hearing that, Ivory’s face dropped. She looked up and there he was -Jayden Santiago, approaching down the hallway, holding a bouquet of
flowers.
Seeing him only deepened her despair.

She had kept Jayden around because of his wealthy family, but now, William in the picture, Jayden’s background felt insignificant. And their appearances were not even comparable!
“Ivory! I know you’re just about to wrap up your shift! I thought we could have dinner together,” Jayden announced as he set the bouquet of flowers before Ivory, his smile wide and eager.
Ivory collected the flowers hesitantly. She quickly put them aside and replied dryly, “I’m not really in the mood to eat.”
But Jayden persisted, “You shouldn’t skip meals! You’re getting too thin.

You choose, Chinese or French restaurant? Or maybe Japanese? How about sushi? Remember the sushi place from last time? You seemed to like it. Let’s go there again!”
As Jayden continued to speak, Ivory’s irritation grew. “I already told you, I don’t want to eat! Don’t you have something else you could be doing?” she snapped.
“I do!” Jayden responded earnestly. “I just left work and came straight here for you!”
Ivory was at a loss for words.
“My buddy invited me to play pool, but I passed to spend time with you. You can’t say no to dinner!” Jayden insisted.
The mention of his “buddy” only annoyed her further! Godfrey Smith, his friend, always looked rough around the edges, spoke in a sleazy manner, and constantly got into fights!
Then, an idea struck Ivory.
Her previous annoyance turned into a smile. “Dinner, you say? Where were you planning to meet your friend to play pool? We could eat somewhere close by, invite him along, and then you two can play afterwards. Does that sound good?”
