Chapter 209 Bombs
As they chatted, an unexpected buzzing sound cut through the crackling fire, seemingly coming from above.
Ryland and Claude shared a quick glance before they both tilted their heads upward.
It was a helicopter!
A black helicopter approached quietly with its blades making a soft buzzing as they cut through the air.
The helicopter bore no identifying marks and its windows were tinted, hiding whoever was inside.
On the other side, Marvin and his group also spotted the helicopter.
Marvin’s heart thudded with nervousness, echoing like a drum in the breeze, as he turned to Jarrod. “Jarrod, do you think it’s Uncle Shaun?”
Was he planning something?
Marvin felt a hint of what was going on but hesitated to say it out loud, worried that mentioning it might curse their luck.
The helicopter lingered overhead briefly before it began to descend.
As it neared, Marvin kept his eyes fixed on it, poised for whatever was to
come.
At that moment, the fire blazed fiercely, its snaps and pops blending with the loud buzz of the helicopter. This dark, menacing helicopter appeared overhead like an unwelcome guest, intensifying the distress of those on the island.
.
“Whose is it?” Marvin’s heart raced.
“It’s not Shaun’s,” Jarrod responded, his tone as calm as ever. “Don’t worry, Shaun doesn’t have access to this kind of resource.”
Even so, Jarrod watched the helicopter with a growing chill in his eyes.
Slowly, the helicopter touched down while everyone watched intently, feeling each throb of the rotors resonate within them.
They watched in silence, tense as the unknown machine landed.
Then, figures jumped out, fully armed soldiers in camouflage.
Marvin was stunned!
Even Jarrod, normally so composed, was visibly taken aback by the sight.
Next to him, Sylvia watched with a much more composed expression.
“They must be William’s fellows from the army,” she said.
There was a hint of pride in her voice as she spoke, but almost instantly, she recognized the foolery of that pride.
William was not her partner, nor did he have any connection to her.
Her moment of misplaced pride didn’t reflect on her at all.
Sylvia couldn’t help but smile wryly.
Looking up, she caught Jarrod’s gaze on her.
Feeling her more sensitive side laid bare, Sylvia turned her head awkwardly, but then someone gently took her hand.
Assuming Jarrod wanted to say something, Sylvia waited in silence for him
- to speak, but he remained quiet, simply holding her hand.
Meanwhile, the soldiers quickly disembarked and formed up. The apparent
leader issued commands.
“There’s no time to waste. We only have ten minutes! Sync your watches now for precise timing!”
All the soldiers promptly looked at their watches to check the time.
“Shrimpie, clear out all non–essential people! Team One, get ready to disarm the bomb! Team Two, start the rescue operations now!” the leader barked.
“Yes, sir!” the soldiers responded in unison.
Following the order, the soldiers sprang into action, moving swiftly and purposefully.
Marvin, Ryland, and their companions were still reeling in shock when a soldier approached them urgently. “There are bombs set to go off in ten minutes! You must evacuate immediately!”
