Chapter 208 On Fire
Sylvia shouted, “Right over there! What’s that?”
Everyone turned to where Sylvia was pointing, and saw billowing smoke and bright flames rising high into the air.
“Something’s on fire!”
Marvin felt his heart jump at Sylvia’s words.
Renee was in danger!
Marvin sprinted towards that direction, with Jarrod right on his heels.
Meanwhile, Shaun had just stepped onto the boat. He watched Marvin and Jarrod running away, as if they were mere strangers.
“Mr. Doyle, are we really leaving your nephews behind?” his assistant asked cautiously, but a sharp glance from Shaun stopped him.
“Marvin made his own decision. I offered him a choice, something I never had in the past.”
Shaun had earned his place through relentless grind, advancing one step at a time!
“Set sail!” Shaun ordered.
His boat slowly pulled away from the deserted island.
On the shore, two other boats remained–one owned by the Doyle brothers, the other by Ryland and Denton.
Shaun’s assistant asked, “Mr. Doyle, should we do something about those two boats?”
Considering their plan to prevent anyone from leaving the island alive, they might as well be completely ruthless.
However, Shaun paused and then responded, “No need.”
“But…”
“If they manage to survive this, then it’s fate giving them another chance.”
The fire on the island intensified. By the time Marvin got to the spot, encircled by dry grass, scattered leaves, and trees, the fire had already transformed the area into a blazing inferno.
“Renee! William! Are you there?” Marvin yelled.
With no response, he called again, “Ryland! Ryland! Where are you?”
As soon as Ryland set foot on the island, he disappeared. It was unclear if he had managed to find Renee.
The origin of the fire was also a mystery!
“They must not be here; otherwise, we would’ve heard something by now,” Jarrod speculated.
Continuing their search, they eventually stumbled upon some footprints. Following these, they found Ryland and his group.
“Any luck finding Renee?” Marvin asked.
Ryland shook his head, looking downhearted. They had scoured the area since landing but saw no sign of Renee.
“Then what about the fire?”
“We’re just as puzzled. We were heading back to check, thinking maybe
Renee and William were behind it.”
“No, we didn’t see them when we came over.”
As they shared updates, the absence of any sign of Renee heightened their
anxiety.
Marvin’s brow creased as he turned to Jarrod. “What should we do now, brother?”
In times of trouble, he naturally leaned on his older brother for guidance.
Jarrod had always been patient with Marvin, from their childhood days right through to adulthood, never considering him a burden.
“We need to split up and cover more ground,” Jarrod decided. “There’s no signal here, so everyone take a walkie–talkie. If anything happens, report it immediately!”
The group quickly agreed and dispersed to continue the search.
But as they scoured the island, the only sounds were the crackling of burning trees; there was still no sign of Renee or William.
Ryland was visibly anxious. “Any ideas where they could be?” he asked.
Claude shook his head. “I’m not sure, but Renee and William aren’t ones to give in to trouble easily. We need to keep looking. Stay positive!”
As they talked, a faint whirring sound mixed with the crackling of the flames caught their attention. It seemed to be coming from above.
Ryland and Claude exchanged glances and immediately looked up.
A helicopter was hovering overhead!
