Chapter 204 Name List
“Do you think this is where we die?” Renee joked, even in the midst of such a grim situation.
She and William had searched every inch of the place, but there were no clues. No people. No food. And certainly no way out.
“Scared?” William asked, his tone light despite the circumstances.
Renee shrugged. “What is there to be afraid of? At least I’m not alone.”
With no visible exit, there was only one option left. They had to dig deeper, searching for anything that might reveal the true purpose of the underground lab.
“This looks like-”
“Drugs.” William finished her sentence.
Renee’s face twisted in disgust. Drugs had destroyed numerous lives. They were nothing but a stain on society.
“If that’s the case, judging by the scale of this lab, the production must be massive. Could it be U2–that new drug we’re investigating?” With every word, her expression grew colder.
“When we get out of here, I swear I’ll take down Shaun. That old menace has had his way for too long!” William muttered.
“How do we escape?” Renee turned to William, instinctively knowing he had a plan.
When he appeared that calm, there was always something running through
his mind.
But all he said was, “Once Ryder realizes you’re missing, he’ll come for us.”
Renee narrowed her eyes. “And what if he doesn’t notice?”
“He will.” There was no hesitation in William’s voice.
Renee fell silent.
Where did he get such confidence?
Yet, as it turned out, William was right. Ryder had already pinpointed the location of the island. The moment he heard of Renee’s disappearance, he launched a rescue mission without delay.
As soon as Shaun’s ship left, the sound of approaching rotor blades filled the air. a helicopter circled overhead, scanning for a place to land.
Barr led the team, their gear sharp and their movements precise. Each operative was handpicked, trained for missions exactly like this.
“Search every inch of this place! No stone unturned, no wasted time! We have two hours to find them, even if you have to dig three feet deep!”
“Yes, sir!”
“Look at this!” Renee’s voice carried excitement as she waved William over.
They had wandered into what appeared to be the lab workers‘ dormitory.
The bedding was still fresh. Someone had been here not long ago.
If people had lived here, then this was the best place to search for clues.
And Renee had soon found something. Near the head of one bed, just beneath it, one brick stood out. Its color was slightly different from the others. Curious, Renee reached out, gripping its edge, and pulled.
Behind it, a small, hollowed–out space had been carved into the wall. Inside, a single booklet lay untouched. To her surprise, its pages were filled with
nothing but names.
“This list, it must be tied to the lab! Whoever hid it, either they wanted to leave behind evidence or planned to use it as leverage for financial gain.”
Renee flipped it open, her eyes scanning the first name.
“Shaun Doyle.” Her breath hitched. “It’s him. It’s really him.”
But as she continued reading, her expression darkened.
Page after page, the names only grew more shocking. The list contained some of the most powerful businessmen in Tofral.
If this went public, the entire city would be in chaos.
“Nixon Carter?”
Her stomach twisted. Nixon was mixed up in this too?
Without thinking, Renee slammed the booklet shut, anger flashing in her
eyes.
Ever since Johnny passed, Nixon had spiraled. And now, he had sunk deep enough to be dealing with drugs?
If Johnny were alive, he would have torn Nixon apart for this. Hell, he was probably turning in his grave already.
