Chapter 198 Jealous
Suddenly, a cough echoed through the quiet cave.
The intimate moment between Renee and William shattered instantly.
Renee’s head dipped, heat rising to her cheeks.
William turned toward Ryland, his eyes sharp and unyielding, like he was staring down an opponent.
Ryland scratched the back of his neck and forced a sheepish smile. “Sorry, Mr. Mitchell. Couldn’t hold it in. Uh… want to keep going?”
“Keep going my ass! We’re done!” Renee snapped, her glare cutting to William as if he’d orchestrated the whole mess.
“William, you carry him out,” she demanded.
Both men blinked at her, their expressions twisting with disbelief.
Ryland decided that under no circumstances would he let the mighty William Mitchell carry him. It was simply unimaginable!
William, on the other hand, figured that carrying Ryland would be beneath him—an insult, really.
Renee seemed to read their minds. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. “Is there a problem?”
Ryland’s eyes silently begged her for mercy. “You know, actually… I can manage-”
William cut him off. “You jumped into the sea for this punk. He’s lucky I haven’t tossed him back in. And now you want me to carry him?”
Ryland opened his mouth but couldn’t find a single word in his defense.
“Punk“? Seriously?
Ryland’s jaw clenched. Fury bubbled inside him, but he swallowed it down, keeping his face calm, considering it was William he was facing.
“I’ll carry him,” a voice said firmly.
They all turned.
Claude stood in the cave, his eyes heavy with sadness as they stayed fixed on Ryland.
Renee caught the chemistry between them. Without a word, she took William’s arm and gently led him away, leaving the two alone.
“You know you’re the third wheel, right?” William said, his tone edged with
sarcasm.
Renee shot back without missing a beat. “Third wheel? Ryland is my friend! When have I ever crossed the line?”
“Oh, I don’t know–maybe when you jumped into the sea like a maniac for him!” His voice rose, unable to hide his frustration.
Even now, fear lingered in his chest. The thought of Renee recklessly plunging into the sea after Ryland sent a shiver down his spine.
William had never been afraid of anything–not gunfire, not danger, not even death. He could charge into chaos without a second thought. But losing Renee? This was different. It was a terror that gnawed at his core, dragging him into a dark abyss where helplessness ruled.
But Renee didn’t see his fear. Instead, she laughed carelessly. “Are you jealous?”
William stayed silent, his expression hard.
His stubborn silence spoke volumes.
Her laughter only grew louder. “So, you do get jealous.”
He scoffed, cool and dismissive. “It’s not like you haven’t seen that before.”
“Oh, really?” she teased. “I must’ve missed it. What was that? Who were you jealous of? Is it because of Sylvia?”
William shot her a piercing glance, cold as ice.
Renee smirked, confident she hadn’t said anything out of line.
But then he spoke, his voice dripping with disdain. “Ramon.”
The name hit her like a punch.
She froze for a moment, and then recalled who Ramon was. If Marvin hadn’t brought him up recently, she’d have completely forgotten about that guy.
To her surprise, William hadn’t forgotten either.
“You had a beef with him? Why?” she asked, her voice laced with surprise.
William’s face soured, as if he wished he could erase the memory.
“He’s your ex–boyfriend,” he muttered.
Renee froze, the words hitting her like a brick. Her ex–boyfriend? Since when?
Then it clicked–Marvin had once mentioned that William had beaten
Ramon up. Could it have been… because of her?
No way!
Renee studied William closely. Anyone who didn’t know him might think there was some deep–rooted grudge between him and Ramon.
So, when he’d said he’d been jealous before… was he talking about being jealous of her and Ramon?
