Chapter 194 A Desperate Race Against Time
Renee’s phone had been soaked in seawater for too long. It would switch on but couldn’t make calls.
Still, it was a good sign. The fact that it turned on meant there was hope. Her phone had a GPS feature, and Ryder could track it.
But… would William call Ryder for help? Or, if William couldn’t find her, would he assume she had perished at sea? She couldn’t tell.
“Renee, where exactly are we?” Ryland asked.
They had roamed the island for some time and determined it was an isolated spot, probably rarely visited by people.
“A remote island, I believe,” she replied.
Upon hearing this, Ryland imagined some frightening scenarios and shuddered.
Renee noticed his fear and playfully chided him, “Look at you, spooked by your own thoughts. Relax. As long as I’m here, nothing bad will happen, and you won’t starve.”
After her remark, Renee teased further, “You boldly dived into the sea, trying to take your own life, and now you’re scared?”
“Stop making fun of me, OK?” Ryland’s gaze fell on Renee’s phone. Hopeful, he asked, “Hey, does your phone still work? Can we call for help?”
“It doesn’t,” Renee answered.
Ryland’s hope quickly got dashed.
She then mentioned, “But we can hold on for a rescue. My phone has GPS, and if they don’t give up and keep searching, they might track us down.”
Doubting whether William would ask Ryder for help, Renee realized she couldn’t just wait idly.
First, she needed to survey their environment.
Her left leg was sore and bruised and was hurting more after limping around the island.
Her injuries were less severe than Ryland’s, who was beginning to show signs of a fever. Without timely treatment, his injuries might get worse.
“Ryland, stay awake.” Renee gently shook him.
But his eyes were already turning dull and lifeless.
Quickly, she touched his forehead and recoiled at the intense heat.
Her brows creased.
“Renee, I… am so tired…” Ryland’s eyes were blurry, and he was losing consciousness.
“Ryland! No! You can’t sleep!” Renee was apprehensive. She needed to get him off this island fast!
Yet, the island felt completely cut off from the rest of the world.
If nothing changed, Ryland’s condition would deteriorate further.
Renee watched the sun setting, lost in thought.
Waiting helplessly on this island wasn’t a wise choice.
As she sat by the feverish Ryland, her own leg injury began to ache sharply. She had to find a way to treat both their injuries.
However, on this remote island, even basic medical supplies were nowhere to be found.
Luckily, Renee found some clean water and leaves in the forest.
She carefully cleaned Ryland’s wounds, employing various tactics to keep him engaged and awake, worried he might drift off to sleep and never woke up again.
As the sun dipped behind the mountains, the moon rose slowly, casting a chilling, eerie atmosphere over the island. In this lonely and helpless night, Renee began her desperate race against time.
