Chapter 189 His Tears
“Nene! Nene!” William’s broken voice echoed across the sea.
He watched in despair as Renee sank beneath the sea, his heart tearing apart. Despite his fierce attempts to escape from Denton’s hold, the pain of losing his love sapped his strength, and Denton gripped his arm tightly.
“William, calm down!” Denton bellowed.
But William couldn’t find any peace. He lashed out, striking Denton across the face. “Get lost!”
A trickle of blood ran down from the edge of Denton’s lip, but he continued to stop William from a rash dive into the sea after Renee.
“Are you listening? Even if you jump into the water now, can you guarantee you’ll bring her back?” Denton’s firm and commanding tone slightly eased William’s frenzy.
Meanwhile, the coast guard officers were already searching the sea for
Renee.
The wind howled, carrying a piercing cold.
The thugs on the cruise had all been subdued, but Renee and Ryland were still in serious danger. Medical personnel were on standby, but with every tick of the clock, their conditions became more critical.
The wait brought everyone to the brink of hopelessness.
The initial search and rescue attempt yielded nothing. The captain looked somewhat surprise when he saw William.
“Mr. Mitchell?”
“Please… continue the search. The woman who leaped into the water is the love of my life.” William managed to say that much, his voice completely ragged. He continued to gaze at the sea, his eyes red and not blinking.
The coast guard captain was taken aback by this. He couldn’t ask why William’s loved one would dive into the sea for another man, since such matters were personal.
“Rest assured, Mr. Mitchell. We will try our possible best.”
Another attempt at search and rescue was initiated.
William moved to the railing and suddenly called out, “Denton, tell Abbott to come here.”
Abbott Blakely was the head of William’s security company. He led a team of highly trained professionals. While they couldn’t match the army in terms of weaponry, their skills were on par with those of special force agents.
Denton glanced at William, unsure of what to say. They were at sea, and logically, the chances of survival diminished as time passed. Even if Abbott arrived as soon as he possibly could, it might still be too late to make a difference.
However, seeing William, usually so calm and in control, now completely distraught, Denton couldn’t just stand by. He pulled out his phone and dialed Abbott’s number.
“Abbott is on his way with a team. William, everything will be alright,” Denton reassured him.
William bowed his head, masking his feelings. Suddenly, a tear slipped from the corner of his eye and dropped into the unfathomable depths of the sea, disappearing without a trace.
The sight caught even William off guard.
Once again, Renee had vanished right before his eyes.
He could never forgive himself for this.
He felt the world around him was spinning.
For the first time, he experienced a complete and utter sense of helplessness.
He had waited three years to have Renee back in his life. How could he fail to protect her again?
Since William was a child, he had always chased his desires with relentless effort and determination, never tasting the bitterness of failure. But now, as he saw Renee disappear into the sea, a crushing sense of defeat enveloped him tightly.
Another tear fell.
Next to him, Denton caught sight of it and his mouth fell open in disbelief. Who could have imagined the unshakable William breaking down in tears?
For Renee, William actually shed tears…
