Chapter 187 The Necklace
Shaun’s bodyguards rushed in, moving in perfect sync with him as they swiftly overpowered the attackers.
Renee acted quick, ensuring William had a clear escape route, keeping him out of the crossfire.
As soon as Shaun and his men had taken down the last of the armed thugs, Renee sprang into action. With a sharp kick, she forced open the vent. Before anyone could react, she leaped down, landing with precision right beside Marvin.
Shaun, acting on instinct, swung his gun toward her, mistaking her for another threat.
Unfazed, Renee simply patted Marvin on the back. “Marvin, we’re leaving.”
The familiar voice jolted Marvin out of his daze. His eyes fluttered open, relief washing over him the moment he saw her.
“Renee! It really is you! I…”
“Save it for later,” she cut in. “We need to move before their reinforcements arrive.” She grabbed his arm, ready to get him out.
But Marvin hesitated, glancing at Shaun. “Uncle Shaun, come on!”
Renee met Shaun’s gaze briefly but said nothing.
Instead of following immediately, Shaun turned toward William and greeted him with a smirk. “Didn’t expect to see you here, Mr. Mitchell. When did you arrive?”
William, his attention still fixed on Renee, answered without looking at
Shaun. “Right when the attack began.”
Shaun let out a low chuckle. “I owe you for earlier, then.”
Had William not fired at an assailant preparing to shoot, Shaun might have been wounded, even if he’d managed to dodge in time.
“It was nothing,” William replied, his tone clipped.
With the banquet hall now secure, they wasted no time making their way toward the deck. However, the cruise ship was still crawling with enemies -ones who would soon realize something had gone wrong. They had to eliminate those men quickly and quietly before a full–scale retaliation began.
Stepping onto the deck, they were met with an eerie silence. Not a soul in sight.
Even Denton was missing.
William’s brows furrowed.
“There’s a boat approaching!” someone called out.
Out in the vast darkness of the sea, several small boats emerged, their bright lights cutting through the night. Their presence was an enigma, setting everyone on edge.
Weapons remained at the ready as the boats closed in, their intentions still unclear. Then, a commanding voice rang out from one of them, slicing through the tense silence.
“Attention, everyone on the cruise! This is the Spuyna Coast Guard! We advise you to surrender immediately!”
A wave of relief swept through the group as they instinctively raised their hands.
“We’re from Spuyna as well!”
“Stay where you are!” The officers on the boats aimed their weapons but
held their fire, cautious.
As the vessels neared, the group could make out the familiar Spuyna police uniforms, confirming their identity.
“Remain calm,” one of the officers called out. “We received a report of a hijacking on this cruise ship.”
At last, Shaun and the others lowered their hands.
Then, Shaun turned to Marvin. “You go first.”
Marvin hesitated, gripping Shaun’s hand like a child unwilling to part. “Uncle Shaun, come with us.”
“Do as I say,” Shaun ordered, his tone firm. He gave Marvin’s shoulder a reassuring pat.
As he did, his fingers brushed against the chain around Marvin’s neck.
A simple necklace at first glance, yet upon closer inspection, its pendant bore intricate engravings of ancient symbols.
Renee’s eyes narrowed.
Was this what the thugs had been after?
But something didn’t add up. If the necklace was their target, why hadn’t they taken it the moment Marvin was captured? There were only two possibilities. Either they had no idea what the thing they were after actually looked like–which seemed unlikely… Or the true object of interest was carefully concealed within the necklace itself.
