Chapter 180 Who Did He
Beat Up
Suddenly, a deep rumble echoed.
Marvin strained to figure out the distant sound, and then nervously asked, “What was that? Could it be… pirates? I’ve heard there are pirate attacks on the high seas. What should we do?”
Renee sighed in exasperation. “If pirates had helicopters, they’d be out of business—no more plundering the high seas.‘
“Helicopters? Why would there be helicopters right now?”
Renee’s mind clicked. Indeed, why would there be helicopters now? Was someone important arriving, or was someone being taken away?
Whatever the answer was, it held an important clue.
“We need to check this out.” She grabbed Marvin’s arm and led him toward
the source of the noise.
When they reached the deck, they saw two figures stepping off the
helicopter.
Something about them felt oddly familiar.
As the figures lifted their heads, Renee froze, momentarily stunned.
It was William and Denton.
What were they doing here, of all places?
“Is that… Mr. Mitchell? Is he here for you?” Marvin asked, his voice filled with surprise.
The sight of William made Marvin stiffen, his instincts pulling him a few steps away from Renee.
Renee shot him a helpless look. “What are you doing?”
“I’m worried he might beat me up.”
Renee blinked, at a loss for words. She then asked, “Aren’t you worried I might beat you up?”
Hadn’t she just beaten him to a pulp? When had William ever laid a hand on him? Didn’t he realize she was the one he should really be afraid of?
“I’m fine with you beating me up, but him… I’ve seen him knock someone out. It’s terrifying!”
Just the thought of it still made Marvin shiver; his scalp prickled, and his legs wobbled.
“It’s a real nightmare!” he groaned.
Renee scoffed. “Seriously? William was always such a rule–following Boy Scout. Even if he got into a fight, he’d barely land a punch before turning the guy over to the police. And that’s your version of nightmare?”
She used to hate how uptight William was—always so serious. It was like the world depended on his discipline.
Back then, she had thought he was just a pretentious phony.
Funny how she’d ended up falling for him anyway.
“What are you talking about? William was a total beast when he fought, OK? I was just a kid, third grade I think, and I saw him take down a whole gang. There was blood everywhere–it was horrifying!”
Renee’s brows knit together. That didn’t sound like William at all. When Marvin was in third grade, William would’ve been a 10th grader, maybe 11th. She had spent the entire summer after 9th grade practically glued to him. Not once did she see him get into any wild fights.
“Who did he beat up?” she asked, her tone sharp.
Marvin squinted, trying to remember.
Meanwhile, William and Denton were closing in on them.
Marvin’s eyes widened as he pointed at Renee. “You should know that
dude.”
Her brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?” Had William beaten up someone she knew? A friend of hers? But the only person Renee could think of as a true friend was Ryland.
“Yeah, Ramon! Remember him? He used to walk around telling everyone you were his girlfriend.”
Renee blinked, almost forgetting about Ramon Carrillo. But once Marvin mentioned him, memories resurfaced.
Ramon was built like a tank. They grew up in the same compound. With his strong physique, he always had a gang of kids following him, picking on others. That was until he crossed paths with Renee.
At first, he tried to bully her–pulling at her dress because she was pretty. But after a little lesson from Renee’s family bodyguard, he learned to show some respect. Soon enough, he was practically her lackey.
Ramon was all talk and no action, a cowardly bully. It made sense he’d get
a beating.
But by William? And so badly? Renee couldn’t figure out why.
