Chapter 165 Utterly
Ridiculous
The elevator chimed softly.
Someone was coming.
Renee quickly stopped herself and stepped back into the room.
Relief barely had time to settle before the door was flung open with a violent kick.
“It’s here!” a voice shouted.
Whoever had kicked the door hadn’t expected it to be unlocked. The momentum sent that person stumbling forward, nearly colliding with
Renee.
At the last second, Renee sidestepped, letting that person crash to the floor
instead.
Cameras flashed in an instant, capturing every moment.
Still on the floor, the woman’s face twisted with embarrassment and fury. She jabbed a finger at Renee, her voice sharp and accusing. “You idiots! Why are you taking pictures of me? Focus on her! She’s the mistress! This bitch—she’s the one seducing my husband! Expose her!”
Renee stood frozen.
What on earth was happening?
The reporters didn’t hesitate. Their cameras shifted, and suddenly, Renee was blinded by relentless flashes. She squinted, raising a hand to shield her eyes.
“Ma’am, what’s your relationship with Mr. Padilla?”
“Are you his mistress?”
“Do you have a comment on the situation?”
The barrage of questions came all at once, making her head spin.
As Renee pieced together the chaos around her, it became clear. She had accidentally walked straight into the middle of a cheating scandal.
This woman’s husband and his mistress must have been on the bed behind that partition.
Renee let out a small chuckle and raised her hand, signaling for them to quiet down. The noise was getting unbearable.
Before Renee could get a word in, the furious wife lunged at her, aiming to slap her. Renee reacted on instinct. She caught the wrist mid–air, blocking the attack with ease.
“You little–how dare you fight back!” the woman screeched.
O
Renee forced a sheepish smile. “Uh, sorry. Reflex.”
The reporters, sensing the tension escalating, snapped even more photos, eager to capture every second.
“You’ve got the wrong person,” Renee said, her voice firm. “This has nothing to do with me. The person you’re after is on that bed I guess. I was just passing by.”
“Liar! How dare you deny it? Let go of me!” the woman shouted, twisting in frustration. “Oliver! Get out here! Stop hiding like a coward!”
The reporters were poised to storm inside, cameras ready, when a.man suddenly burst out of the inner room. His pants were only half–fastened, and smeared lipstick stained his face and neck.
Oliver Padilla.
The moment he appeared, he dropped to his knees before his wife, his
voice trembling with desperation.
“I’m sorry! This is all my fault. I failed you!” He clutched at his chest, his eyes glistening with regret. “It was her! She seduced me, and I was weak! I gave in! I was wrong, honey. Please, give me another chance.”
Renee stared at him in utter disbelief. Was he pointing at her? She wasn’t
his mistress. She didn’t even know him!
This was ridiculous.
“Let go of my wife, you hussy!” Oliver’s voice cracked with false bravado as he lunged, trying to pry Renee’s hands off his wife. “I’m done with you! Don’t ever show your face to me again!”
“You liar! Let go of me!” The woman shrieked, twisting and fighting against Renee’s grip.
Amused by the ridiculous spectacle, Renee finally released her. The woman stumbled backward, landing straight in Oliver’s arms.
Tears streaked down his face as he held onto his wife.
“Please, my love, I beg you. I know I messed up. I’ll cut her off right now. I swear, I’ll never make such stupid mistakes again!”
“Get lost, Oliver! You make me sick!”
With all the fury she had left, she wrenched herself free and struck him
hard across the face.
Oliver didn’t flinch. He stood there, head bowed, his voice filled with regret. “Hit me as much as you want. I deserve it. I was an idiot. I wasn’t thinking. But please, don’t hurt yourself over me. I know I was wrong now.”
Renee exhaled, shaking her head.
This was utterly ridiculous.
It was like watching a drama unfold in real time.
