Chapter 160 Allergies Can Be Hereditary
Renee rushed out of the kitchen, her heart racing. From a distance, she
could already make out the glaring red patch on Felix’s neck.
“Felix…” Her voice trembled as she hurried to his side, only to be shocked
as she noticed red bumps sprouting all over his skin.
“Mommy… it itches…” Felix whimpered, his discomfort clear.
“It looks like an allergy reaction,” Ryder said, his gaze flicking to the shrimp
on Felix’s plate.
Renee quickly grasped what he was implying and shook her head. “Felix isn’t allergic to shellfish. He’s eaten it before without a problem.”
“Renee, stay calm. We should get Felix to the hospital right away,” William said, stepping forward with concern.
Ryder pulled out his phone with a calm, collected air. “No need to rush. I’ll
have the doctor come here.”
After placing the call, Ryder returned, his eyes narrowing as they took in
William from head to toe.
The look was almost unreadable, and William felt the weight of it.
There was something unspoken between the two men, and Renee could feel it in the air. Following Ryder’s gaze, she turned to William, her eyes widening in surprise.
“You… William, you’ve got rash on your face too!”
William froze, his hand instinctively going to his cheek. At her words, he
noticed the mild itch spreading across his skin. As his eyes scanned the room, they fell on the vase by the TV.
The vase, holding a bouquet of fresh flowers Ryder had brought the day before, suddenly stood out to him. He hadn’t paid much attention to it
until now.
Upon seeing the flowers, Renee’s face paled, her stomach sinking.
William was allergic to pollen. She knew this, but she hadn’t even considered Felix might share the same sensitivity. Could such allergies be genetic?
“He’s allergic to pollen,” she muttered, panic creeping into her voice. “Mr. Chadwick, please ask the doctor to bring some loratadine.”
Renee turned to the nanny, her voice sharp with urgency. “Juliet!”
“I’m here!”
Juliet Dury noticed the stir in the living room and, at the sound of Renee’s urgent tone, rushed out in haste.
“Open all the windows and get those flowers out of here,” Renee commanded, her voice tight with worry.
“Got it!” Juliet nodded and hurried to remove the flowers, while Ryder moved to open the windows. Meanwhile, William went to fetch some
water for Felix.
“Felix, drink some water. The more you drink, the better,” William said, handing him the glass.
The allergic reaction hit Felix fast. His skin was soon covered in red spots, and the itching became unbearable. He scratched furiously, his small body wriggling in discomfort. Renee gathered him into her arms, her heart heavy with guilt.
Felix had never been exposed to fresh flowers before, so she had never known he had a pollen allergy. It was a lapse on her part.
The doctor arrived swiftly–thankfully, it was the same pediatrician from the previous day. However, today, her smile was more respectful, almost reverential, as she entered the room.
“Hello, Mr. Chadwick. Hello, Ms. Carter. And… Mr. Mitchell…” the doctor greeted, her eyes flicking to each of them.
“Please, just check on Felix,” William interjected, his concern evident as he focused on the boy.
The doctor handed over the medication. “This is loratadine, and I also brought vitamin C. Let Felix take these first.” She passed the medicine to Renee, who knelt in front of Felix, gently coaxing him to take the pills.
At first, Felix resisted, turning his head away, but after several patient reassurances from Renee, he finally accepted the medicine, swallowing it down reluctantly.
Once Felix had taken the pills, Renee handed the remaining medication to
William.
“You should take these too before it gets any worse,” she suggested, her
voice soft but insistent.
“Mr. Mitchell, are you experiencing an allergic reaction as well?” The pediatrician raised an eyebrow, glancing at William. William’s condition seemed less severe than Felix’s.
“You’ll need to be careful in the future. Allergies can be hereditary, and in more cases than you believe, they can even be life–threatening,” she continued, her tone matter–of–fact but with a hint of concern.
Renee tensed, her eyes darting briefly to William. Thankfully, his face betrayed nothing out of the ordinary. Her heart raced at the thought of him overanalyzing the situation and possibly realizing the truth about Felix. With a surge of panic, she swiftly steered the conversation in a different
direction.
