Chapter 154 Who Is He
The pediatrician soon arrived, gave Felix a quick examination, and then turned to her colleague with an expression of sheer disbelief.
“Seriously? You dragged me all the way here for this? Do I look like I have nothing better to do?”
Ryder’s brow furrowed slightly. “Doctor, what’s wrong with Felix?”
“What’s wrong with him? If I’d arrived a little later, he’d have woken up and cured himself!” She snapped her medical kit shut with an exasperated
sigh. “Parents these days panic over nothing. Kids run fevers–it’s part of life. Once he wakes up, just keep him warm and hydrated. By tonight, he’ll be completely fine.”
As she slung her bag over her shoulder and turned to leave, she threw an
annoyed glance at her colleague beside her and muttered under her breath, “Still can’t believe you called me in for something like this. Who even is
that man?”
The other doctor closed his eyes like he was bracing for impact, and then
whispered a name.
The pediatrician froze. Then her voice shot up a few octaves. “Who? Who did you just say?”
“You heard me right. Ryder Chadwick, captain of Night Wolf Special Forces.”
A chill ran down her spine. Her knees nearly buckled. Her mind raced back
to everything she had just said.
Wait… Did she really just lecture Ryder? Her stomach twisted into knots. What had she done? This wasn’t just some overprotective dad—this was Ryder! She had actually just lectured the formidable Ryder to his face!
The surgeon cast a sympathetic look her way, watching the blood drain from her face. He had tried to stop her, but she was always so blunt. He’d been sending every possible silent warning, but she hadn’t picked up on a single one. Now, he wasn’t sure if Ryder was about to let this slide–or pull out a gun and execute her on the spot.
“What do I do now? You know what? Pick a cemetery with a nice view for me,” she said miserably, casting a helpless look at the surgeon.
“Relax. We might end up as neighbors,” he replied with equal resignation.
They exchanged a long, sorrowful glance, their expressions filled with nothing but shared despair.
“Doctor.” Ryder’s voice rang out.
Her knees nearly buckled again, and she might have collapsed if not for her colleague grabbing her arm at the last second. “Stay strong.”
Ryder’s brow creased slightly as he regarded her. “Are you alright, Doctor?”
“I–I’m fine, Mr. Chadwick. Do you um… need anything else?”
Could he possibly let this slide? Or was she about to pay the price for her recklessness? There were whispers that Ryder had earned a reputation for being ruthless and merciless, with those who dared to cross him often meeting a grim fate. Moreover, he never allowed anyone the slightest bit of
leniency.
“I just wanted to ask if you have any sedatives,” Ryder said.
Her heart nearly stopped. “What?” She stammered, her mind racing. “For a child that young… it’s really not advisable…”
Wait. Was he serious? Was he really that cold–blooded? Was he planning to
sedate his own son?
“No. It’s for an adult.”
She let out a shaky breath, overwhelmed with relief. So she had jumped to

conclusions for nothing.
“For… you?”
The moment the words left her lips, regret hit her like a ton of bricks. Why on earth she would say that? How did she keep walking straight into danger? Some questions should never be asked.
Even the surgeon beside her tensed, bracing for impact. But to their surprise, Ryder didn’t seem offended.
“No. It’s for Felix’s mother,” he replied.
“Oh… I see. So, it’s for Mrs. Chadwick,” she said instinctively.
Her colleague nearly choked on air. His entire body stiffened as if he had just witnessed someone step on a landmine.
“Mrs. Chadwick? Oh, God,” he thought as he stole a quick glance at Ryder, expecting his mood to darken. But instead of anger, there was something else–something subtle but unmistakable. Amusement. “Prescribe it for me, please” Ryder said.
“Of course.”
As the two doctors left, a heavy weight lifted from their chests.
They had made it out alive. It felt like they had just survived judgment day.
