Chapter 129 The More, The Merrier
William looked calmly into Laurie’s eyes as he spoke.
Confronting Laurie, he carried himself with an elder’s poise, though Laurie perceived it differently. She expressed surprise but then casually remarked, “That’s fine. We can get married after your divorce. Divorce procedures are pretty quick these days anyway.”
“Miss Chadwick-”
“Please, William, just call me Laurie.”
Laurie’s warm demeanor left William impressed. She reminded him of a younger version of Renee, though Renee had been a lot more assertive back in those days.
“The table you reserved is this way, sir,” the waiter said, leading some newcomers to their seats.
As William glanced up, he caught sight of Renee and Marvin across the room. Their eyes met.
Marvin avoided William’s gaze, bowing his head out of respect for the Mitchell family. Renee had arranged this meeting to discuss something important, or Marvin would not have risked encountering her while they were the subject of public interest. Who could have anticipated a run–in
with William?
Laurie, initially facing away from the pair, felt a shift in William’s attention and turned to see Renee. Surprised at first, Laurie quickly composed herself, stood, and greeted them with a polite smile. “Hello, you must be Ms. Carter, right? I’ve seen your photos online, and you’re even more
beautiful in person.”
Laurie, restricted by her family from attending many social gatherings due to her youth, was meeting Renee for the first time.
“Thank you. And you are-” Renee responded.
“I’m Laurie Chadwick, William’s blind date.”
At the mention of “blind date,” Marvin’s expression shifted to one of surprise, but William chose not to elaborate.
Marvin then turned his attention to Renee, who presented herself with even greater poise than Laurie.
Renee remarked, “Is that so? You two make a lovely couple.”
“Really? Thank you for your kind words.” Laurie stood up with joy, walked over to William, and linked her arm with his.
“William, did you hear that? Even Ms. Carter thinks we’re a good match.”
William gave a cold sneer, his gaze fixed intently on Renee as he responded sharply, “Ms. Carter and Mr. Doyle also seem well suited. When’s the wedding? Perhaps we should have a double wedding and celebrate together. After all, the more, the merrier.”
Renee stood there, dumbfounded.
Was William even aware of what he was suggesting? Could he seriously be proposing a double wedding with his ex–wife and her “new lover” in front
of his blind date?
What on earth was going on?
To her astonishment, Laurie appeared even more enthusiastic than William.
“That’s a brilliant idea! Ms. Carter, you’re absolutely stunning. You’d look marvelous in a wedding gown. I might just be overshadowed, but I don’t mind. After all, I am the younger one here.”
Renee was left speechless once more.
She wondered if they were really just trying to rile her up.
“We should go,” Renee declared, tugging Marvin with her as she started to walk away.
“Hey, wait! Ms. Carter, why are you leaving? Did I say something wrong?” Laurie called out to her.
Renee didn’t turn back. Clearly, the pair had lost their senses. Anyone who wished to entertain their antics was welcome to. She however, had no desire to be part of it and silently wished they would remain together indefinitely.
