Chapter 121 He Doesn’t
Mind Her Past
“What do you think? I went to steal back my alimony,” Renee said matter- of–factly.
Marvin stared at her, blinking slowly. Had he misheard?
“Isn’t that something you, I don’t know, get instead of steal?”
Renee leaned back in her seat, utterly unbothered. “Ever heard how much William gave me in our divorce settlement?”
Marvin shook his head. He hadn’t.
She scoffed. “Well, let’s just say, for a man sitting on a fortune like the Mitchells‘, he sure knows how to pinch pennies.”
On the other side of the villa, the man who had been criticized for his stinginess was meticulously inspecting every corner of his home. Despite receiving an alert about a break–in earlier, everything appeared to be in order. He had rushed back, expecting to find some trace of an intruder, but there was nothing. No signs of forced entry, no disturbances. If someone had entered, they were either incredibly cautious or professionally trained. It would have otherwise been impossible to leave without a trace.
His assistant’s voice broke through the silence on the line. “Mr. Mitchell, we’ve found that Ms. Carter and Mr. Doyle went to that clinic you mentioned and dropped someone off. The injured person wasn’t Ms. Carter; it was her step–sister Rosa.”
There was a slight pause before the assistant continued, “Also…”
The hesitation in the assistant’s voice caught William’s attention. He
frowned, his patience wearing thin. “Speak.”
“There are negative comments circulating about Ms. Carter,” the assistant began. “Rumors about her and Mr. Doyle… they’re quite unpleasant. Should I take care of it?”
After the assistant finished speaking, there was a long silence on the line. He thought he might have said something wrong and regretted speaking out of turn. He actually thought Renee meant something to William.
“Make sure they all vanish,” William finally responded, his tone unwavering.
The assistant, relieved, quickly replied, “Understood, Mr. Mitchell.”
On the desk in William’s study lay a set of paternity test results. The report confirmed that Felix wasn’t William’s son. Though he had always had doubts, he couldn’t bring himself to confront the truth until now.
But if Felix wasn’t his, then who was the father? Could it be Marvin?
He recalled that back then, Renee and Marvin had barely got along–Marvin was holding a grudge against Renee, if anything. Besides, Marvin had never been her type.
It couldn’t have been Ray either. Who exactly? Could it have been one of those men from her past?
If it had only been a fleeting affair, William wouldn’t have cared. After all, his desire was for her heart, not just her body. But what unsettled him was the possibility that if Felix’s biological father ever resurfaced, the connection between them might reignite–Felix acting as the bridge between them.
William tucked the reports away just as his secretary called. He instructed her to handle the gala when he rushed home earlier. “What’s going on?” he asked.
“Mr. Nelson is missing,” his secretary replied, urgency clear in her voice.
William’s brow furrowed slightly. “What happened?”
“Ms. Carter left the party and went up to Mr. Nelson’s room and then took her stepsister with her when she left the hotel. Before they left, Ms. Carter hit Mr. Nelson. No one’s seen him since, and his assistant is now searching everywhere for him.”
“Do we know what happened in his room?” William asked, his concern for Renee flickering. A confrontation–was Renee hurt?
He felt a surge of protectiveness, but he couldn’t care less about Glenn Nelson’s fate.
If Glenn had dared to harm Renee, William would ensure he faced dire consequences.
“We’re reviewing the hallway surveillance footage and should know shortly. Mr. Mitchell, would you like to come over?”
“I’m on my way.”
Just as William prepared to end the call, he heard a sharp gasp from the
secretary.
“What’s wrong?” William’s tone sharpened with curiosity.
The secretary hesitated, fumbling for the words. Finally, she said, “Maybe it’s best if you come and see for yourself.”
