Chapter 120 Tripped The Home Security System
Marvin was still trying to steady his nerves when a pair of headlights flickered in the distance. His chest tightened. A car was approaching–and fast. Turning his head sharply, he watched as the vehicle sped directly toward them,
“Shit!” Cold sweat formed on his back. He needed to warn Renee, but if he stepped out now and that approaching car belonged to William, he’d be dead meat,
What the hell was he supposed to do? He had no idea what to do.
Panic seized him as he spotted Renee striding straight toward him- oblivious to the car hurtling in her direction. At their current speeds, collision was inevitable.
Frantic, he rolled down the window, waving wildly to warn her off.
Rence glanced up at him, puzzled. From where she stood, the oncoming vehicle was hidden from view. He could only pray she understood his frantic gestures.
She didn’t. She barely hesitated before continuing forward, her pace steady. Marvin’s breath caught as the car barreled closer. The moment they were about to meet, he squeezed his eyes shut, unable to bear the sight.
The car whooshed past his own, never slowing. His heart pounded as he cracked his eyes open, catching only a glimpse of the vehicle’s retreating taillights.
But Renee–where was she?
Marvin lowered the window further, scanning his surroundings. Nothing No sign of her.
“Renee?” His voice came out hoarse, uncertain.
“Renee!”
“Re-”
“Shut up.” Marvin stiffened. The voice had come from above him.
Doubt flickered in his mind–was he imagining things? Slowly, he tilted his head back. There, perched effortlessly on a tree branch, Renee smirked down at him, arms crossed, her expression dripping with amusement. “You really are an idiot, huh?”
Before he could process the absurdity of it, she leaped down, landing right in front of his car.
A rush of air swept past him as she touched the ground with unnerving
ease.
Marvin gawked. “That’s… impossible. How did you even do that?”
Ignoring his disbelief, Renee yanked open the car door, slid into the driver’s seat, and started the engine. Only then did she toss him a casual reply.
“I just did. Now, Mr. Doyle, where to? I’ll be your chauffeur for the night.” Renee shot him a cheeky grin.
“Home,” Marvin answered automatically only to frown a second later. “Wait a damn minute. This is my car. How are you the one giving me a ride?”
Renee burst into laughter. “Good point. Fine, let’s switch it up. Drive me to my hotel first, and then you can take yourself home. Sound fair?”
Marvin had long grown used to Renee’s easy audacity, so he didn’t argue. Instead, something else nagged at him. He glanced in the direction the car had disappeared. “That car just now… Was it William’s?”
“Yeah,” Renee replied with a casual shrug.
He blinked. “Weird. He’s hosting his company’s annual gala tonight. Why would he leave early?”
Renee’s reply was maddeningly casual. “Oh, probably because I tripped his home security system.”
“Oh, that’s why.” Marvin nodded absently but then froze. “Wait, what?! What the hell did you just say?”
His head snapped toward her, eyes wide with disbelief.
William’s security system was legendary–rumored to rival those of top- secret government facilities. People whispered that he had personally designed the system himself.
And yet, Renee had triggered it… and walked away like it was nothing?
“You’re unreal! That’s seriously badass! How’d you pull it off? Can you teach me?” Marvin asked, his excitement bordering on admiration. Then his brain finally caught up with the situation. “Wait, hold up. Why were you sneaking into his place? You’re his ex–wife, right? You don’t know the password?”
“I do,” Renee admitted without hesitation. “But you said it yourself–I snuck in. If I walked through the front door, that wouldn’t be sneaking, would it?”
Marvin groaned. “That’s not an answer. What were you doing in there?”
