Chapter 112 Did You Forget
Your Room Number
At first, Renee had no interest in getting involved in other people’s affairs. In fact, Rosa meant far less to her than even a stranger ever could. Yet, after taking a few more steps, she couldn’t help herself and muttered, “Ridiculous!”
Without a second thought, she pivoted on her heel and headed straight toward the elevator.
As she neared the lift, a couple was just about to press the button. Without hesitation, Renee brushed them aside, her eyes quickly scanning the floor numbers. The elevator was headed to the 18th floor.
“Hey, what the hell? You crazy woman!” the man she’d shoved aside snapped, visibly annoyed.
Renee turned toward him with a steady, unreadable gaze, and her silence only seemed to irritate him further. He jabbed a finger at her, stammering, “You… You’re Renee?!”
Renee rolled her eyes, an exaggerated motion that made it clear how speechless she
was.
“Who else could I be?” she thought.
She gave the man an once–over, finding him entirely unfamiliar.
“Well, I’ll be damned. It really is you,” he muttered. “Someone mentioned you were back, but I didn’t believe it. You ran off, didn’t you? What brings you back?”
Renee’s response was blunt. “Who are you?”
The man’s face twisted with confusion. He looked like he’d been slapped, yet he refused to back down. Pointing to himself, he said, “It’s me, Marvin Doyle! Don’t you remember
me?”
“Oh…” Renee drawled, clearly unimpressed. “I don’t even remember beating you up. Ryland mentioned I did, but honestly, I wouldn’t have remembered. How could I? So, move aside. I’m in a rush. You can take the next one.”
As the elevator doors slid open, Renee stepped in. Marvin, dragging his companion along, followed her inside. When he noticed she had pressed the button for the 18th floor, he gave her a grin. “What a coincidence! We’re headed to the 18th floor too.”
“Weren’t we going to the 12th floor?” his companion murmured softly.
“Quiet,” Marvin whispered sharply, not taking his eyes off Renee.
The elevator felt small, and Renee, though pretending not to care, could hear every word. Normally, she’d ignore them completely, but today was different. She needed to get closer to Shaun through Marvin.
“Hey, is this your new girlfriend? She’s not the one I met last time, right?” Renee asked casually.
Marvin looked genuinely puzzled, trying to recall, before asking, “Last time? Which time? Have we met recently?”
His companion pouted, “Marvin, didn’t you say I was your favorite? How come there are other women? I’m upset!”
Marvin responded with a quick pat on her shoulder, trying to appease her. “Come on now, be a good girl. I’ll buy you a designer bag later.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the woman’s face brightened. A designer handbag could fix anything, it seemed. Women like her were pragmatic, understanding that someone like Marvin, a privileged heir, likely wouldn’t fall for them for real. Since marrying into money was a distant dream, they’d settle for whatever material gain they could manage before the inevitable break–up.
The elevator dinged, reaching the 18th floor. As Renee stepped out, Marvin and his companion trailed behind her. The floor was lined with exclusive guest rooms, each door firmly shut, and not a soul in sight. Renee furrowed her brow, thinking about how to locate Rosa. This wouldn’t be easy.
“What’s wrong, Ms. Carter? Can’t find your room?” Marvin teased.
Renee turned to face him and asked, “Why are you following me?”
For a split second, Marvin looked confused. He hadn’t even considered why he was trailing her. He was simply curious about her intentions.
“I’m not following you,” he stammered, before quickly adding, “Our room’s on this floor, right, babe?” He glanced at his companion for confirmation.
She nodded obediently. “Yeah, our room’s here. We’re not following you!”
Renee raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp. “Oh, really? Well, then go on to your room, Her tone was casual, almost amused. She observed them for a moment, noticing how neither dared to meet her eyes. “What’s wrong? Did you forget your room number? Don’t worry. I’ll help you out.”
