Chapter 4 Finally About To
Find Out
The sharp sting of the slap sent a jolt through Owen Harvey. For a moment, he stood completely still, stunned.
No one had ever been bold enough to hit him on the face.
Several seconds ticked by before he slowly turned his head back, his expression shifting from mild amusement to
something far colder. His voice was cold as he asked, “What the hell is wrong with you?”
The look on his face was menacing as he sized her up.
A chill crawled down Joanna’s spine, her body instinctively tensing as she stepped back.
But why was she the one backing down? She was the victim here!
Steeling herself, she met his gaze head–on. “I ended up like this because of you! An apology is nowhere near enough. A
scoundrel like you belongs in jail!”
Owen was momentarily speechless in the face of her twisted logic. He had merely been passing by, yet somehow, in her
mind, that made him guilty of some unspeakable crime.
He glared at her with disgust. “You betrayed your boyfriend, and now you’re looking for someone to blame? Your boyfriend
was right–you really are pathetic.”
Hearing those words again sent a fresh stab of pain through Joanna’s chest. Yes, she had kissed this man first–but only because she had mistaken him for Mathew. And yet, he had taken advantage of her drunken state, helping Norene set her
- up. How could he act like she was the only one at fault?
Her entire body trembled, but she held her ground, teeth clenched. “I was the only victim from start to finish! Twisting the
truth like this–aren’t you afraid karma will come for you?”
Owen nearly laughed. Her? The only victim? By that logic, what did that make him–the innocent bystander who had just gotten slapped?
His jaw tightened. The sting on his cheek was already fading, but his patience wasn’t nearly as resilient. This girl needed to
learn a lesson.
“Mr. Harvey!” From down the hallway, Coen Schultz, the principal, strode toward them.
The sharpness in Owen’s eyes vanished. This foolish girl had no clue just how fortunate she was.
Joanna instinctively wiped at her damp cheeks before turning to greet the principal. “Hello, Mr. Schultz.”
Coen’s eyes flicked between them. “Do you two know each other?”
Owen’s response was indifferent. “I was just asking for directions.”
Coen gave a knowing nod. “I see. Mr. Harvey, allow me to introduce you–this is Joanna Powell, one of our best students.”

He gave Joanna a subtle glance, expecting her to properly introduce herself in return.
But the last thing she wanted was to stand here another second, giving Owen a chance to humiliate her in front of Coen.
She acted as if she hadn’t noticed the principal’s cue. “Mr. Schultz, I’ll go have lunch now.”
Coen’s brows furrowed slightly at her abruptness. “Alright, you may go.”
Owen watched her turn away. How interesting. Suddenly, the foolish girl had gotten smart.
His eyes followed her for a moment before he casually pulled a card from his pocket and handed it to Coen. “Does this belong to your school?”
Coen glanced at it. “Yes, it’s a student meal card. Where did you find it?”
Owen’s fingers twitched slightly. “Is there a way to check who it belongs to?”
He had picked it up in his hotel room last night.
The surveillance cameras had been knocked out by the hurricane, erasing any chance of tracking her down.
At first, he thought he’d never find the girl from the last night.
But then–by sheer luck–he had spotted this meal card near the bed.
So the girl who had the nerve to mess with him was just a student? It made Owen’s curiosity deepen.
Coen gave a firm nod. “Each card has a unique ID. I can have our IT department check it for you.”
“How long will it take?”
“Five minutes.”
That was pretty fast. Owen pursed his lips, an unexpected rush of anticipation stirring within him.
The moment he found the card, he had been intrigued. Who was she? What kind of girl had the nerve to play games with
him?
And now, finally, he was about to get answers.
