Chapter 27 Throw Her Weight Around
A heavy silence hung over Owen’s office.
His assistant stood stiffly, watching him with apprehension.
Owen tossed a thick investigation file on Joanna and Martha onto his desk with a sharp thud. His lips curled into a sneer.
“She’s got some nerve.” Not only was she stirring up trouble under his name, but she even had the audacity to mock him.
“Get me the workshop supervisor’s number–now!” His voice was sharp, carrying an air of finality. He was done tolerating
Joanna’s insolence.
His finger hovered over the dial button when Joanna’s words suddenly echoed in his mind. If he acted blindly and sided
with Kristy, wouldn’t that just prove Joanna right?
His expression hardened. Instead of making the call, he slammed the phone down and tapped furiously on his keyboard,
rewinding the surveillance footage.
The screen flickered to life, showing Joanna and Kristy seated at their desks, engaged in conversation. The audio wasn’t
clear, but their body language spoke volumes.
Just as Joanna moved to leave, Kristy lunged at her, her movements aggressive–the clear instigator of the fight.
“Owen will make sure you’re thrown out of this company!” Kristy’s smug voice rang out.
Owen’s gaze turned sharp, his expression unreadable. With a low scoff, he muttered, “So she thinks she can throw my
name around, huh?”
He didn’t hesitate this time. He simply grabbed the phone and dialed.
Meanwhile, back in the workshop, a figure suddenly appeared, shoving Joanna aside. “Move!”
Joanna stumbled, barely keeping her balance. Her brows knitted together. “Reba, stay out of this. It’s got nothing to do with
you.”
Reba yanked Kristy to her feet, eyes burning with anger. “How is this not my business? Kristy’s my friend. If you mess with
her, you mess with me. And don’t think you can pull your usual tricks–there’s no man here to protect you. If you try
anything, I won’t hold back!”
Joanna blinked in confusion. “What man?”
Kristy clenched her fists, silently cursing as she pulled Reba aside. “Reba, let’s not lower ourselves to her level. Let’s just go.”
Reba, however, wasn’t having it. “Kristy, I know you’re kind, but you can’t keep letting people walk all over you! Don’t
worry, I’ll make sure you get the justice you deserve.”
She turned back to Joanna, eyes blazing with indignation. “Joanna, don’t think I don’t know the truth. Kristy told me

everything! You had terrible grades, fooled around in school, and only got into Harvey Group through connections! And if
that wasn’t enough, you even stole Kristy’s boyfriend…”
Joanna raised a brow, amused by the list of offenses being thrown at her. She glanced at Kristy with a smirk. “So this is
how you talk about me behind my back.”
Kristy’s face turned red with frustration. She wanted to scream.
Reba was such an idiot! Did she really have to spill everything out in the open?
Before Kristy could think of a way to fix the situation, a middle–aged man hurried through the door, dragging a suitcase
behind him.
“Uncle Wilbur! You’re finally back!” Reba ran toward him, her face lighting up as if salvation had arrived. She grabbed his arm and whined, “Kristy and I were almost bullied to death by this horrible girl. You have to stand up for us!”
“Enough!” Wilbur’s sharp voice cut through the room like a whip. He shot Reba a glare before sweeping his eyes over the group. “All of you–my office. Now!”
Joanna had expected Wilbur to side with Kristy, but to her surprise, after hearing the full story, he turned to Kristy and
scolded her without mercy.
Reba gaped in disbelief. “Uncle Wilbur, Kristy didn’t do anything wrong! Why are you scolding her?”
Wilbur exhaled sharply, clearly losing patience. He jabbed a finger in Kristy’s direction. “Let her tell you herself how much
of what she said is actually true.”
Kristy hesitated, her confidence wavering. “Well…”
Reba frowned, her voice urgent. “Kristy, say something!”
But before Kristy could stammer out a response, Joanna crossed her arms and said lazily, “She’s quiet because it was all
lies. What do you expect her to say?”
Reba whipped her head toward Kristy, her expression shifting from confusion to disbelief. “You lied to me?”
Kristy forced out a nervous chuckle. “Reba, I had no choice…”
“No choice? You had no choice but to spread nasty rumors about another woman? Do you have any idea how much damage that can cause?” Reba’s voice trembled with anger. “Kristy, you’re unbelievable!”
Kristy’s eyes welled up with crocodile tears. “Reba, please, let me explain-”
“Enough!” Wilbur’s patience had finally snapped. He waved them both toward the door. “I don’t want to hear another word. Get out!” With that, Reba and Kristy were unceremoniously kicked out, leaving the room in blissful silence.
Wilbur then turned to Joanna, rubbing his temples. “Reba acted out of anger and ended up hurting you. I apologize on her
behalf.”
Joanna shook her head and said, “Reba was just misled. I don’t hold it against her.”
Wilbur let out a breath of relief. “I’ll handle this matter properly and make sure you get the outcome you deserve. Also, don’t worry about the assessment–I’ll make sure you pass.”
Joanna’s face lit up with joy. She thanked him sincerely before leaving.

He had just gotten back from a business trip and hadn’t even set down his suitcase when Owen called, demanding that
Joanna be treated fairly.
For a man who had long since retired from the public eye, it was highly unusual for Owen to take personal interest in a
fight between young employees.
Wilbur couldn’t help but wonder–just what was Joanna to Owen?
“Termination?” Wilbur repeated into the phone, his expression shifting. “Alright, I understand.”
