Chapter 19 Owe Me An Apology
Reba got what Kristy was saying and quickly responded, “I’ll keep everything about this week a secret! If Uncle Wilbur asks when he’s back, I won’t tell him anything!”
Since Reba was Wilbur’s niece, he would never learn the truth as long as she stayed quiet.
“Thanks, Reba,” Kristy said, her eyes shining with satisfaction.
Kristy had been holding a grudge ever since Joanna had insulted her looks. Now, with Joanna at her mercy, she was set on getting even.
Thirty minutes later, Kristy handed Joanna a schedule.
Joanna couldn’t shake the feeling that she was facing a brutal work routine.
The schedule showed that Joanna was expected to be at her desk from 6 AM until midnight, with only breaks for meals. Even bathroom time was planned out.
Joanna couldn’t believe it. Was the Harvey Group really this tough on its employees?
Kristy watched Joanna closely, then said, “Mr. Garrett thinks you’ve been slow to catch up, so this week’s going to be hard on you. You need to catch up with the other management trainees as quickly as possible.”
That explanation made sense and helped calm some of Joanna’s worries.
“I’ll do my best to catch up.” Joanna replied.
Kristy gave a small smile. “Good. Go get into your uniform. Work hard. When Mr. Garrett comes back, I’ll speak highly of you.”
Joanna didn’t buy Kristy’s act of kindness. However, Kristy was in a higher position now, so Joanna didn’t challenge her. Instead, she went to change into her work clothes.
The entire day, Joanna stayed busy on the assembly line, always keeping an eye on how things were running in the workshop.
She observed that at three o’clock in the afternoon, the first shift finished, and the second shift took over, working until midnight.
At dinner, Joanna took the chance to strike up a conversation with some of the more experienced workers. She asked them about the other management trainees.
“They’re not like us,” one worker said “We’re the ones who put in the hard work. The trainees, though, they’re meant to be leaders. They don’t stay on the line. They get a quick look at the process and then leave.”
Joanna’s heart sank. It felt like Kristy was purposely targeting her.

Chapter 19 Owe Me An Apology
The situation was more complicated than she’d hoped.
Kristy was Wilbur’s assistant. If Joanna went against her, Kristy would definitely gossip about her to Wilbur when he came
back.
But Joanna wasn’t about to just sit back and take it.
All day, Kristy kept checking on Joanna, making sure she wasn’t slacking off.
The work on the assembly line was draining, and by ten o’clock, Joanna could barely keep up.
Kristy seized the moment, recording Joanna struggling with back pain while still trying to work. She shared the video in the dorm’s group chat, getting a nod of approval from Tatiana.
“Not bad, keep it up,” Tatiana said.
The next morning, Kristy was excited to get to work, but when she arrived, she noticed Joanna wasn’t at her station!
After searching for a while, Kristy finally spotted Joanna near a CNC machine, chatting with a worker.
Kristy couldn’t hear their conversation, but it was obvious Joanna wasn’t doing her job.
Kristy felt a rush of excitement. She thought Joanna might last longer, but she had caught her slacking so soon!
She stormed over and, before Joanna could react, she kicked her hard.
The pain shot through Joanna’s leg. Caught off guard, she stumbled and crashed into the machine’s control panel.
The worker rushed to help her up. “Joanna, are you alright?”
Joanna nodded, then pushed herself up. She turned to Kristy with a cold look. “What’s your problem?”
Kristy crossed her arms and sneered, “It’s work time, not social hour! Consider this kick a warning. Next time, I’ll tell Mr.
Garrett about you!”
Joanna smiled bitterly, “You really think just sitting stiffly at the workstation is the only way to work hard?”
Kristy frowned. “What are you trying to say?”
The worker couldn’t stay quiet. “Joanna came to ask me about the CNC machine. She’s really focused. We didn’t say anything unnecessary. If you don’t trust me, just check the security footage.”
He pointed to the camera overhead.
Kristy hadn’t seen this coming. She cleared her throat awkwardly, trying to cover up. “You’re a seasoned pro with ten years of experience, I believe you… Well, in that case, Joanna, keep learning. I’ll head back.”
As Kristy tried to walk away, Joanna stepped right in her path.
With a forced smile, Joanna said, “Don’t you think you owe me an apology for your behavior?”
