Chapter 14 Landing Right
Into Owen’s Arms
Joanna paused, unsure. “But…”
“Enough with the buts!” Turner snapped. “If we land this deal, we won’t have to worry about money for months! Get dressed up and get here fast. If it works, I’ll give you ten percent of the profits!”
That offer was too good for Joanna to pass up. “Okay, I’ll get ready now.”
In just twenty minutes, Joanna pulled up to the restaurant, following the address Turner had sent her.
Turner stood waiting at the door. When he saw her step out of the car, his face twisted into a frown. “Didn’t I tell you to
dress up? And this is what you wear?”
Joanna wasn’t naive. She knew all too well that, in business dinners, women dressed up were often treated like ornaments.
Ignoring Turner’s advice, she kept it simple with a white blouse and black trousers, adding only a bit of lipstick.
With a feigned innocent expression, she said, “Sorry, Mr. Ramirez, you called me so suddenly, I didn’t have time to find
something else to wear.”
“Forget it, just come on in!” Turner said, grabbing her arm and leading her inside. “Sit next to me and keep quiet unless I
tell you to speak. Don’t act on your own.”
It was the first time she’d seen him so serious, and her curiosity got the best of her. “Who is this client, anyway?”
Turner answered in a cryptic tone, “Someone really important! You’d be shocked if I told you.”
Joanna’s curiosity grew.
When the private room door swung open, Joanna froze in shock.
Sitting at the head of the table was none other than Owen.
The soft lighting made his mature, handsome features stand out. He lounged in his chair, legs crossed, two buttons of his
white shirt undone, giving off a relaxed yet irresistible vibe.
As soon as he heard the door, he looked up, his expression darkening.
His eyes clearly said, “What are you doing here?”
Joanna cursed her bad luck silently. If she’d known the client was Owen, she would’ve never stepped foot in that room.
Unaware of the tension, Turner eagerly introduced her to Owen. “Mr. Harvey, this is my secretary, Joanna Powell. She was
so excited to meet you!”
“Oh?” Owen raised an eyebrow, his gaze piercing as he looked at Joanna. “You were excited?”
Joanna’s heart sank. She knew what Owen must be thinking that she was trying to use her connection to Rhys to get him

to sign the deal.
She forced a smile and said, “Mr. Harvey, your incredible achievements are well–known all over Qakvale. I’m sure meeting you in person is a dream for many.”
Owen let out a quiet, mocking sound and waved his hand toward the table. “Take a seat.”
Then, he turned away, no longer acknowledging her.
A brief flash of disappointment crossed Turner’s face.
Joanna was about to sit beside Turner, but the latter quickly tugged her to his seat. “Joanna, sit here.”
Turner’s seat was right next to Owen.
Joanna couldn’t help but glance at Owen. His face gave nothing away, but she noticed his pinky, adorned with a ring,
tapping the table a few times, clearly impatient.
He said, “Are you really putting this inexperienced rookie next to me? What, are you hoping she’ll mess things up?”
Turner hadn’t expected Owen to get upset. He quickly apologized and moved Joanna away.
Joanna let out a quiet sigh of relief as she settled beside Turner, her eyes drawn back to Owen’s hand.
His long fingers wore a simple silver pinky ring that shimmered softly in the light.
Joanna hadn’t noticed it before during their past meetings.
As dinner started, Turner raised his glass. “Mr. Harvey, I’ve always admired your skills and achievements. It’s truly an
honor to meet you today. A toast, from me and my secretary!”
He knocked back his drink in one go.
Reluctantly, Joanna followed suit and finished her glass as well.
“Mr. Ramirez, you’re certainly straightforward,” Owen said with a smirk, taking a small, symbolic sip.
Feeling pleased with himself, Turner launched into a pitch about his company’s main products while refilling both his and
Joanna’s glasses.
Joanna wasn’t great with alcohol. At the last party, she’d gotten drunk quickly. After a few more drinks that evening, her
vision began to blur.
“Mr. Ramirez, I really can’t drink anymore,” she said softly, trying to protest.
Turner pressed the glass into her hand, whispering, “If I’m drinking, so are you. Don’t make a scene.”
It was clear he’d already had more to drink than she had.
After a brief pause, Joanna took another glass.
One glass, then another…
Before long, her cheeks were rosy, and her eyes sparkled, giving her a captivating, almost intoxicating look with just a
glance.
Turner was ecstatic. He had been right–Joanna was absolutely stunning. “Joanna, I need to step away for a moment. Take my seat and keep explaining our products to Mr. Harvey,” he said
