Chapter 12 Get Some Work
Done On Your Face
Joanna was hit with a wave of panic and quickly turned to leave.
“Joanna!” Rhys closed the gap between them in a few steps. His tone had a touch of frustration. “Why did you run when
you saw me?”
Joanna forced a smile. “I’m not running. I just remembered something I forgot to print… Oh, and are you here for class?”
Rhys had only just started his first year at Qakvale University. When he enrolled a month earlier, Joanna had heard all kinds of gossip about him–most of it about his high–status family and his wild love life.
“Yeah, my dad kept me locked down for days, but he finally let me get back to class today.” Rhys said this as he casually wrapped his arm around Joanna’s waist.
Joanna was startled, like a deer caught in headlights, and pulled away from him immediately.
Rhys‘ face went blank.
Joanna bit her lip, feeling awkward. “Sorry… I just need some time to adjust.”
Rhys smiled kindly. “No problem, I get it,” he said, not pushing the issue. “So what do you need to print? I’ll come with you.”
To keep up the lie, Joanna claimed she needed to print a work contract.
Rhys took the paper and looked it over, raising an eyebrow. “What kind of company is this? Never heard of it. I’ll talk to my dad tomorrow and get you a job with our family’s company.”
Joanna jumped in quickly. “No!” She shook her head. “I appreciate your offer, but… I want to do this on my own.”
Owen had already suspected that Joanna had hidden motives in approaching Rhys, and she was determined to avoid any link to the Harvey Group to keep herself out of Owen’s reach.
When she was job hunting, the Harvey Group was the first company she crossed off her list.
Rhys didn’t push it. He just smiled and said, “That’s one thing I like about you you’re independent.”
After printing the contract, Rhys took Joanna for a walk around campus.
As they walked, Joanna couldn’t help but notice the curious and sometimes suggestive looks from other students, which
made her feel uneasy.
After they had walked two full laps of the campus, Rhys finally let her go.
Joanna let out a sigh of relief, then said goodbye to Rhys before heading straight into the dorm without looking back.
The door to the dorm room was slightly open, and Joanna could hear her roommates talking inside.

Darla Finch said, “Joanna’s always so quiet, but she somehow managed to land the richest heir in Qakvale! She won’t ever have to worry about money again. I’m so jealous!”
Kristy Carter sneered, “She dumped her old boyfriend to get with Mr. Harvey. A girl like her would have been in real
trouble back in the day!”
Tatiana laughed, “You’re just jealous because everyone knows you’ve got a thing for Rhys. You didn’t have the guts to go for him, so now you’re trashing Joanna? How pathetic.”
Kristy’s face turned red with rage. “I’m not wrong! Joanna’s just a bitch.”
Bang!
The dorm door suddenly swung open, and Joanna marched straight up to Kristy.
Kristy flinched and backed up, her eyes full of caution. “I warn you, if you even think about hitting me, I’ll report you for campus violence!”
Joanna gave a sly smile. “You’ve got it all wrong. I just found out today that you like Rhys. Honestly, I’m not interested in him. How about I let you have him instead?”
Kristy’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
“Of course,” Joanna said, pretending to think it over. “But…” She squinted at Kristy’s face like she was considering something important. “Rhys doesn’t like girls who aren’t attractive. Maybe you should… get some work done on your face
first?”
“Pfft!” Tatiana couldn’t hold back a burst of laughter.
Everyone knew Kristy was extremely touchy about her appearance.
“Joanna, you’re asking for it!” Kristy, boiling with anger, raised her hand to slap Joanna.
Joanna quickly shouted, “That’s campus violence!”
Kristy’s hand froze in mid–air.
If she slapped Joanna, it would be considered campus violence. But if she didn’t, she’d lose face.
“Alright, alright,” Tatiana said, stepping in to break up the tension. She had clearly enjoyed the drama enough. “Joanna, she was just kidding. No harm done, don’t take it so seriously.”
Joanna looked at her coolly. “When I call you a bitch, I am just kidding too. Don’t take it to heart.”
Tatiana’s smile faded,
When Kristy saw the dark expression on Tatiana’s face, her earlier frustration melted away, replaced by a smug grin. “Joanna, you probably have no idea, do you? Tatiana’s boyfriend is Rhys‘ dad, Owen! You think you’re something for getting Rhys? Tatiana’s the one with real skills!”
Even though Rhys was incredibly rich, he was nothing compared to his father, Owen–like comparing night to day.
Tatiana’s attitude shifted. She looked even more arrogant, her smugness back in full force, “Joanna, if you call me ‘Mom‘ now, I’ll let your earlier remark slide.”
