Chapter 9
KING GAVIN ACKERMAN
The first ray of dawn escaped the thick window drapes in my home office, fifteen more minutes then my late night struggles of getting the piled up work done were over.
I signed on the last sheets and read through the response from the Western rulers. Satisfied with how keen and competent they handled things.
Forty more minutes later I came down from my room completely dressed and ready to start the day. I paused in the hall by the tall oak door, it felt like the previous day was a mere dream. If it wasn’t then Ruby was somewhere in the room behind this door.
Her floral scent shot through my nostrils, a reminder from the goddess my mate was here with me.
She didn’t know we were fated. How possible was that?
For whatever reason, I couldn’t recognize her scent the first time we met, not until a few more hours later. As strange as it sounded. .
My wolf growled impatiently, fighting to take control of the situation, to bustle into the room and be with her. But things didn’t work that way. This untamed primate inside me never learned.
I started towards the stairs only to meet Hannah ascending the stairs.
“Good morning, your Majesty!”
“Wake Ruby, there’s a meeting by eight.”
I went down the stairs, passed on breakfast, and left through the front double doors towards Kirk’s wing of the mansion.
We shared breakfast and talked lightly about the strategies at hand to get into the Outlanders camp.
It didn’t feel so right to me having Ruby involved in this. Seeing the bruise on her face the previous night reminded me of how defenseless she was. What if things skidded out of control and the Outlanders struck?
“What’s up with you and this Omega?” Kirk asked when breakfast was over.
My features hardened, a play out to suggest this subject was off limits but Kirk wouldn’t have been the best buddy I had all my life if he didn’t lean in with an amused smirk on his face.
“There’s bound to be a catfight. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“Denise knows her boundaries.” I took the cup of black coffee to my lips, paused, and looked away at the lady walking in. through the door. Denise, “Fuck!”
“You’re long overdue for a little drama.” Kirk chuckled and gestured to the beautiful blonde at the breakfast bar.
Her stilettos stabbed into the floor in confident strides towards us, a lovely smile plastered on her face, and her cologne filled
the air.
“Hi,” she squeaked.
I left the breakfast bar towards the living area where the meeting would be held. Kirk took his cup of coffee and tailed me to the couch while Denise went into the kitchen and reappeared after a few minutes with a cup of chai.
Norman Blu, an’integral part of the team walked in next, a huge grin on his face. “I must admit Syzygy Pack’s got quite some

Denise filled the spot beside me when she edged my way. The pares in Denise’s eyes were plain, “This is ridoious 1 don’t dig breathing the same air as an Omega, Wait outside
“Denise…” Kirk chided softly,
“It’s either that or I leave, I can’t stoop to this level” She sprang to her feet.
“I’ll leave instead, Ruby spoke quietly, rather nervous watching the smirk on Denise’s face, “You can’t return just yet, he’s hoping this meeting keeps you away for the next two hours”
“I beg your pardon?” Her blue eyes darkened, and colors tinged her face.
“Marcus…”
“What?” Denise became the nervous one, “Shut the hell up and sit your ugly runt ass down!”
Without another word Kuby found the spot next to Norman’s stunned figure, her eyes on her hand. Greatly intimidated.
Kirk was right. There was bound to be a catfight soon. Ruby was no match for Denise. Denise possessed a strong wolf which was adequately trained for an attack and a defense.
Denise and I needed a deep talk about her boundaries, especially around my defenseless mate. The scowls on her face, when she looked at Ruby, made it clear she ached to show Ruby just what she was made of
Kirk broke down what we expected of Ruby, my eyes just couldn’t wander off her. The multi–colored dress she wore and her lost
gaze
made it hard to not want to break down the words so she understood better her task. Norman beat me to it.
“All you have to do is listen, tell us what you hear, and describe the voice, emotions, and whatever you can hear surrounding the voice.” Norman used the softest voice I never knew he had, giving her one of his signature winks, “Is that something Ruby can do?”
She nodded.
“Your first task is tonight, with King Gavin.” Kirk chipped in.
