I mumbled visibly shaking from how intense the need to have a taste of Gavin’s sweet lips grew. The clogging desire in my tone scared me.
A sexy crooked smirk formed on his sensuous lips, “Why should I reward you for such boldness? You stole from me, Ruby.” He swallowed strings of profanity, swiped his forehead, and broke our proximity.
The disappointment in my soul was second to none.
What was worse became the tears welling up in my eyes. No, I wasn’t about to cry.
“How often do you fuckin‘ steal?” His tone became harsher.
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled. “I’ll pay back the money I used to rent the truck, the rest are on the table.”
My words made him consider the items on the rectangular table for the first time since he walked in. His gaze instantly when they drifted back my way.
“Give me one reason why I should spare you, Omega.”

His eyes unexpectedly snapped wide at my response, perceptibly stunned which made me realize his mind tilted to the dirty edge, before I could clarify that he needed me to get into the Outlanders‘ camp, Gavin pinned me back to the wall and his lips without warning assailed mine ravenously. His hands dropped to my hips, hoisting me to his hips, so our heights could match before he set me on the steel table.
Needy moans sounded rough in my throat when he pulled back too soon. Without warning. I clamped my limbs around his hip bones holding myself firmly against his pelvis with my eyes begging him to not break from me. He had not the slightest idea he made me feel things I’d never felt before. He teased me in ways I never knew anyone could in the last few hours. “Not a good enough reason. Offering your body just to buy your way from a crime you committed is disgusting!”
And the disgust didn’t hesitate to show in his pursed lips.
“Don’t insult me.” Yet, I couldn’t risk releasing my tightly linked ankles around him.
With one great pull, my ankles gave way, and he moved from me and walked casually towards the closed door as though he hadn’t just set my core on fire.
“You’ll be detained tonight, you face the court tomorrow.”
What?
I snapped out of whatever dazed my body and mushy knees to my feet.
“I’m not afraid to die. Only people who are happy living are scared to die.” I gulped and scoffed, “And I pray
the Outlanders leave this deadbeat place in ruins. They will after all!”
My words pivoted him to me, his eyes and squared shoulders suggested I’d overstepped my boundaries.
“Aren’t you just a mouthy little thing?”

“I don’t want to die.” I dropped to my knees and started to sniffle. “I can go far away from here where no one will find me. Please don’t let them strip and bruise me again, your Majesty.”
“Get up!”
He sounded more pissed than compassionate. I obliged instantly and caught a glimpse of an inexplicable emotion at the edges of his ensnaring eyes.
The door went open and Kirk returned, easing the thick tension in the air.
“I’ll look at the dossiers by midday tomorrow.”
Gavin spoke to Kirk who returned the items on the table into the backpack and handed it to me.
“Quite a team player.” Kirk’s sarcasm stung badly. “Do better next time.”
I nodded partly because the desperation to save my life took hold of my judgment. Gavin turned out of the door and Kirk cocked his chiseled chin towards the redhead ruler.
My legs picked up after Gavin and didn’t stop until I reached his packed car, fearing for my life at the number of men present and mostly at Nathan’s glaring eyes.
“Where the fuck do you imagine you’re going?” Nathan grabbed hold of my hand, resentment plain. The need to hurt me burned bright in his eyes.
I tried to jerk free, but his grip grew steely at every need to break free.
Gavin glanced over his shoulder at us, this made his grip instantly ease, and I gained my liberty.
“What do you want? Omega?” Gavin snapped irritably.
I scanned my brain for what to say, but he frantically held open his car door and bundled me into the front seat, closed the door, and turned around to slip behind the wheels of the car.
He fired the engine and silently sent the car in motion. Time on his phone read a few minutes past nine p.m., where was he taking me?
We drove for miles in silence, my eyes sneaking cursory glances his way whenever I thought he wasn’t looking, my mind vastly on where he was taking me.
After what felt like hours of unhealthy speed, sneaky glances, and biting silence he slowed when he turned into the bustling streets with honks and headlights filling the air. I didn’t expect him to park outside an exquisite restaurant.

I looked down at my soiled outfits and caught a glimpse of messy hair in the mirror. It certainly would spike a reaction being spotted on a cozy dinner with our high king.
He chuckled, obviously reading my mind.
“You steal anything in there then I…”
“Haha, tha–that’s not how it works.”
His eyes settled on me a little longer than required to be healthy, stirring something wild from the hollow pit of my soul which ended when he tore his gaze from me and got out of the car. With confident strides towards the private entrance.
The excitement inside me to be eating somewhere this fancy plastered a smile I couldn’t contend with. King Gavin had no idea how happy this made me.
First kiss, first nice dinner then I was ready to die the next day.

The automated doors went open and Gavin’s gallant steps took him in and the second I walked through the door, his coral redhead swiveled around to face me muttering something which sounded a lot like, “Mate.”
